In your group consider the following questions. Do each question one by one round robin to hear everyone's thinking first. Once all questions answered move to discussion prompts. Record your answers here.

1. Students were aware of some of the concepts of print.
2. The anticipated problem areas got validated. Example - A child who was read at home, his understanding of the print concept was better than the others.
3. 1 child intuitively knew certain concepts of print was not able to articulate and explain.

Discussion Summary -
It is important for the teachers to consciously and contextually model the print concepts from time to time and be consistent in the observations to notice the print concept behaviour and take action accordingly.

Q1. Punctuation was a common area of concern.
Q2. It is very organized and methodical, and has a clear progression. The rationale behind the scoring needs investigation.
Q3. This is an area that can be easily neglected unless a conscious and intentional effort is made in this direction. Shared reading can be an effective tool to bring this into daily practice.

1. Student performance - varied levels, few had attention issues, few were totally aware of the concepts of print, there were few who struggle with differentiation between words & pictures also.
2. Assessment was more suitable for physical set up, where the child is able to hold the book themselves, had to change a bit rather than showing the book on screen asked the child to bring a book.
3. Surprises - child not aware of difference between picture & word, letter and word, totally aware of end punctuations like full stop, question marks and also giving examples other that the ones present in book to explain.
Discussion: Important to keep revisiting print concepts again and again. Teacher should model the understanding through think aloud while reading a text or modeling her writing. Should be done through a context and not in isolation. Teacher observation of students understanding is critical as that will guide the further steps for action.
