The choir suggests that the seedlings seem lively. The contrasting ideas of life and death being the seedlings and rotted tree stumps show the extremes within the jungle. Assonance is used with the hard E sound in seedlings and tree to create a rhythm in the reading.
Quote 2: "They are pale, doomed blossoms, bound to appeal to your sympathies."
Devices: Antithesis, Metaphor, Alliteration
Analysis: The girls are compared to pale, doomed blossoms to foreshadow the fact they are in danger. Doomed blossoms is also used as antithesis to show that these young, blossoming, and lively females' lives are in danger. Alliteration is seen with "blossoms, bound" to assist in the stories rhythm.

Tattered-Ragged
