I took this picture during my trip at Puebla in Mexico, and me and my uncle went to the a near by river and was just walking around. It was amazing because it I wouldn't see that much green like the wilderness I'm so use to seeing buildings, stores, cars but when we were at the river it felt relaxing.

Now Alex starts heading out to the road (p.7) for an adventure (p.3) which would take miles (p.3) but first he gets his gear (p.5) already and got some boots (p. 7). Then he meets a guy named Gallien.

analysis: This is very interesting because Chris changes his name to Alex. Gallien called the state troopers and was told how he might know who might be the dead body, then they brought the pictures (p.99) out to his job site and the guy in the pictures was Alex. In the beginning, cathine goes on talking about two framed photographs (p.127) of Chris as a junior in high school and the other of Chris when he was seven, she would say how his expression is identical (p.128). He would wait for the good weather to be able to climb and then he saw the signal to be able to climb to the thumb, so on May 11, he began skiing toward the base of the thumb, after three or four hours after leaving camp he was having big trouble climbing the devil's thumb so he had no choice but to go back down (p.144) and wait for another time.

analysis: Now this is a very scary experience, and it's amazing how this guy is alive to tell the story because needing to wait for days into cold just to climb a mountain, sounds very challenging.

#devilthumb #climbing #mountain #weather

Summary: After Krakauer makes it back down he chain-smoke for as long as his supply of cigarettes held out, then he would think if he should leave for the cost once the weather broke or should stay put long enough to make another attempt (p.146) so he thought it out and the thought of returning to the boulder in defeat wasn't appealing to him, so he lit up a joint to make himself feel better but made things worse in which he ends up setting his tent on fire which vaporized one of the walls and made it thirty degrees colder inside. He then talks about his father (p.147) how he taught him to climb and got his first rope, ice ax when he was eight years old, then says how he can relate to Chris about his father wanting their son to have a shining (p.147) career, but he disappointed his father and they both had a bad relationship but once Krakauer discovered his rage was gone he went back to father but it wasn't good and his father wanted to take his own life (p.149) after that he was placed in a psychiatric hospital. Then on the Stikine ice pack, he decided to climb the devil's thumb again and he made it to the top (p.153) of the devil's thumb and takes a picture. once he was done he rides back to town and goes to a bar.

analysis: This chapter was very interesting because Krakauer was able to climb the Devils thumb, and waited for the perfect weather to be able to climb it. I felt like he should've brought a partner with him to have company but its fascinating being able to live to tell the story about it.

#devilthumb #fathers #climb #onwego

Summary: In this chapter we learn on April 15, 1992, Chris departed (p.157) Carthage, then he heads to South Dakota that's when his great Alaskan odyssey (p.157) begins. Then just six days out of Carthage he arrived at Liard Rivier Hotsprings in which he stay there to take a bath then once he finished he was into the roads to catch another ride but this time he had a trouble getting because nobody would pick him up, until he met a guy named Gaylord Stuckey who was en route from Indiana to Alaska to deliver a new motor home, and took Alex gave Alex a ride to his destination (p.158) and on the way Stuckey enjoyed the ride with Alex that he even changed his mind and agreed to drive Alex to the entire destination. Once Stucky dropped him off he asked Alex to promise him to send a letter once he gets back from Alaska, Then....

Summary: Jon Krakauer and three other companions which were Roman Dial, Dan Solie, Roman, and Andrew Liske they headed to The Stampede Trail with a topographic map (p.173) and found a steel cable where Chris tried to cross the river (p.173) and once they climbed to the top of the tower they could see the bus (p.174) on the other side. Then the four of them are on the western side of the gorge and go on explaining how the journey was to the bus and once they were near the bus they just stared at it for a while and saw hundreds of delicate bones and saw a larger skeleton which was the moose he shot and it was a moose and not a caribou. Then once they headed inside the bus they explored inside the bus and found many of Chris possessions (p.178), his pants, a homemade belt, and brown rubber work boots with the name Gallien written in them, and many other of his possessions. Then the four camp out and set up a fire and talk about Chris and try to understand why they despise him. then, later on, would find out how Chris's journal entries were mostly about food (p.183) and had few abstractions about wilderness, then they finally decided not to sleep inside the bus but camp out outside.

Analysis: In this chapter, Krakauer and his companions followed the same steps as Chris but they had a map and were fully prepared to enter the bush. Chris could've taken a map but then again he probably wanted to make things challenging for himself which I can respect but a map really could've helped him maybe even save his life.

#map #bus #TeklanikaRiver #food

Summary: After his attempt depart the wilderness was stymied by the Teklanika's River, so Chris went back to the bus (p.188) on July 8, so then he just went back on to his routine of hunting and gathering, and he noted down in his journal how it rained for a week straight and killed thirty-five squirrels, spruce grouse, five jays, and woodpeckers but the meat he'd been killing was very lean so he wouldn't consume many calories than he was burning. He then noted "HAPPINESS ONLY REAL WHEN SHARED" and Chris was saying how happiness when we are around our loved ones. This whole Alaska adventure changed (p.189) Chris it made him lonely, Then he noted down how weak he is and is starving (p.189) in the beginning Chris was in good health but after July 30, his physical condition wasn't so good, then by August 19 he was dead and there has been conjecture about what causes Chirs death. Before heading north he took some potato (p.190) seeds and planed to plant a vegetable garden but by late July he ate the seeds then there's an entry in his journal which reads "EXTREMELY WEAK. FAULT OF POT SEED" then later on Chis wrote down his final message "I HAVE HAD A HAPPY LIFE AND THANK THE LORD. GOODBYE AND MAY GOD BLESS ALL" and crawled into the sleeping bag his mother has sewn for him and slipped into unconsciousness (p.199), in which he died on August 18.

Analysis: In this chapter, it gives us an inside on Chirs death and his final journal blogs. This chapter is very sad because it shows how his confidence dies slowly and he died by starvation which is the most painful way to die, and the part that is so sad is when near the end of the chapter it says how Chris crawled into the sleeping bad his mother has sewn for him. he knew his death was coming so he took a final picture waving good bye smiling which is nice but very sad cause he knew he wasn't going to make out alive.

#intothewild #rip #death #poison #happiness

Summary: Jon Krakauer accompanies Billie McCandless, and Walt to visit the bus (p.201) where Chris has met his death, they went not by car but they would go by helicopter (p.200) because it was a last-minute change of plans. It took them fifteen (p.201) minutes to get to the bus unlike Chris which took him four days to walk, and once they arrived at the bus they just stood there staring quietly at the bus then Walt says how he has lots of reasons for disliking (p.202) Alaska, Billie and Walt were in and out of the bus for two hours, and they were understanding (p.203) on why their son Chris stayed in the bus near with nature.

analysis: This is very heartwarming because Billie and Walt finally went to Alaska to go see the bus where Chris stayed, they found many of Chris belongs like his pants and many more, it's just nice that they finally went to see the bus.

#Peace #family #parents #bus #Alaska

Summary: In August 1992, Chris died in an abandoned bus, and Alaska coroners declared that he died by starvation (1) But the author of "Into the Wild" Jon Krakauer questioned Chris's death for almost 23 years. Krakauer then talks about Chris diary (3) and continues on saying how Chris blames the potato seeds for making him weak (3) then with the help of Ronaldo Hamilton, Krakauer decided to test the seeds for a neurotoxin called beta-ODAP (6), the results showed that the seeds had a lethal concentration of a compound called beta-ODAP that causes gradual weakening and paralysis (7).

analysis: It's crazy how Krakauer almost spent 23 years just to solve the death of Chris. The thing that amazes me is that Krakakuer didn't just stop on written a book about Chris but went to solve the death of Chris, and he didn't stop so Krakauer was just amazed hot a young man left everything behind just to get to live freely in the bush for 2 years.

#seeds #cases #University #Beta-ODAP

Ever since I visited Mexico during the summer, I was just amazed at how amazing it looked and the experience was just different, and I'd like to visit other countries and see new things. Here, in California, is a normal lifestyle to me and nothing exciting unless going out. Summer was a couple of months away during the pandemic when we had online classes to quarantine for COVID, tired of being stuck in a house with no interaction and doing adventurous experiences. Mexico is at the top of my list to fly out of state and it was a perfect opportunity to take that step. Getting on an airplane isn't my favorite part but despite that, it's totally worth it just getting to see new things. Like Chris, I felt the need to escape society just to experience a different lifestyle. Going to Mexico was the first step to this future odyssey because we went to Puebla Teopantlan, and it was so different because for the first time we didn't have much WiFi and the service was so slow. So every day we did something new, like visit our relatives, go to my grandpa's farm, go out. we basically had a break on technology at first I was upset but then I really enjoyed it.

In the beginning, I was pretty shocked because I originally thought the author was going to build up the suspicion, but nope he revealed Chris's death in chapter 2. throughout the story my opinion on Chris didn't change because I really thought he was a real idiot to leave his family, and everything behind, and didn't even get in touch with them, but I totally respect how Chris goal was Alaska and had to go through obstacles but kept ongoing.

GOOD: I'm just amazed how Chris lived on his own for two years, he donated $24,000 to charity, and abanded his car which wasn't bad and was in good condition. Then proceed to burn his money, ditches his identity, and Chris was no more and changes his name to Alex, then his goal is to go to Alaska.
