Sergeant Nathaniel Maman, 22, of Magen Yavneh died of his wounds on Friday, August 29, after he was hit by a rocket shatter that exploded near the vehicle he was traveling to in Ashdod during the last fighting week during Operation Eitan Cliff. He participated in activities in the Gaza Strip as a technician in the Armed Forces and was promoted to sergeant after his death.
.
The story of his life:

Ben Rebecca and Solomon. Nathaniel was born on the 26th of Tevet 5729 (January 19, 1993) at Kaplan Hospital in Rehovot. His name was given to him by his grandmother. Shlomo, Nathaniel's father, is the founder of the Shas movement in Gan Yavne, and his friend Arie Deri, the chairman of the movement and then interior minister, was the godfather of circumcision.

Nathaniel was a sixth child to his parents and six brothers and sisters - Shahar, Eyal, Ayelet, Yosefa, Adir and Tamir.

From a young age, Nathaniel stood out as a naughty child full of ideas and surprises, family members said. Once, on a rainy day, he built a raft with his brother Adir and the two set sail on the big puddle in front of the house. In another case, on the Saturday of his sister's son-in-law, Nathaniel and his brother Adir and Tamir appeared with their feet full of mud to their knees, after that very day they went for a walk in the plowed area. Then, when the naughty kids were punished by their mother and demanded to stay in the room - they tied sheets together and dangled in the makeshift rope outside, to play.

Ben Hersh and her face, Holocaust survivors. Born (1.1.1949) in the city of Cassel in Germany When Joseph was three months old, his parents immigrated to Israel.
He was very kind to his teachers and a loyal and kind friend within the student company who loved him.
He would help his father in the farm and influence his parents not to sell their belongings. His recruitment day came in November 1966 and he was annexed to the Golany Brigade.
A desire to do everything according to his eyes. This trait showed her signals throughout - and especially recently found what he loved - living together in a fellowship of warriors, among friends who can always be assisted, assisted in encouraging, participating in their joys and sorrows; It was in the military setting. In the Golani Brigade, the Six Day War was over. He fought in Nablus, Jenin and the Golan Heights. Orange War went through a medics course and later served in various places, such as Kissufim, Nir Oz, Beit Shean Valley and more. About a year after the war, he was injured by a grenade, was admitted to the Poria hospital and returned to his unit. A few weeks before he fell into a military medic and would go on many operations and tours near the border. He was about to go on an officer course but in a border incident when his patrol was attacked by a Jordanian ambush, he fell (21.4.1969). Was brought to rest in the cemetery.

The unit commander, in his letter of condolence to my parents, described the battle in which he fell:"Yossi participated in a tour along the Jordanian border in the Golan Heights, when a fire from a Jordanian post near the road unexpectedly opened.
All the patrolmen jumped out of the Half-Track while Yossi stayed on the Half-Track and operated the machine gun while covering his friends who had taken cover.
In the process, the enemy bullet hit him and he was seriously injured. He immediately goes to the hospital with a helicopter, but on his way dies of his wounds. " In this role he served as a central figure in the company and was loved by his friends and commanders. He was one of those few soldiers who shaped the character of the unit ... Yossi was a medic. His job was to help his friends and ease their wounds. However, he did not settle for it and there were six fighters and volunteers for every action. At the time of the incident, one of the commanders tried to move the machine gun and shoot him. But he did not agree. His last remarks before being wounded were: "When I operate the machine gun I protect my friends most effectively." There are no words for us to comfort you. "After his fall, his family published a booklet in his memory called" Yossi ".

By: Benny Glfand
School: Yohana Jabotinsky
