Break the Ice: Introducing Ourselves by Daniela Bunea

Please introduce yourselves by following these guidelines. Share a short personal introduction so that we can all understand more effectively the diversity of experiences within our group. In your post, include: your full name; the subject(s) you currently teach; your level of familiarity with Europeana https://www.europeana.eu/en (i.e. newcomer, occasional user, or experienced practitioner); one fun/interesting fact about yourself (something personal, light-hearted, or unexpected is very welcome!). To complete your introduction, add an image that represents cultural heritage to you. This could be a well-known landmark from your region, an artwork that is meaningful to you, or an object, tradition, or place connected to your local culture. Thank you.

I am a teacher of English as a Foreign Language and the happy mother of a 16-year-old boy. I teach in Sibiu, in a secondary school. I am a Europeana Master Trainer and a member of the Steering Group of the Europeana Network Association’s Education Community. The picture I have chosen shows Ocna Sibiului, which is a unique wellness destination known for its salt lakes that are so salty one floats effortlessly. The site’s rustic charm makes it an appealing insider tip for travellers seeking a relaxing day trip. A highlight is the mud bath, believed to be good for the skin :-)

Hi, my name is Mary Nacca and I live in Italy, specifically in the Abruzzo region. I'm a primary school teacher. I enjoy reading, learning, and sharing best practices. I also enjoy traveling. I'm just getting started with the platform and am eager to learn more. I'm uploading a photo of one of the many monuments in the city of L'Aquila, the provincial capital of Abruzzo.

Here are the key details about its history:

Origin and Purpose: Commissioned as part of the urban redevelopment of the area, it was inaugurated in 1938 to create a scenic entrance to Corso Vittorio Emanuele II.

The Artist: Created by Caramanico Terme sculptor Nicola D'Antino, also the creator of the twin fountains in Piazza Duomo.

The Symbolism: The two bronze female figures, placed on a circular basin, support the typical "conca Abruzzese," recalling local tradition.

"Luminous" and Restored: It owes its name to the evocative nighttime lighting system. After decades, it was restored and reactivated with new plays of color in 2015-2016.

I am a teacher of English in a technological college in Sibiu, Romania, where I mostly teach 14-18-year-old boys.

I could say I'm a newcomer to Europeana, that is I vaguely heard about it before, but have never had any kind of connection with it, until now, so for now, I'm curious about what comes next and I have high expectations, obviously.

Besides teaching English, I recently realised I might have also liked to be a tour guide or a travel agent as I definitely love travelling and planning (to the smallest details) trips for my family, myself, or even friends. I also love photography, although I think good cameras are a luxury these days.

The image you see above is from my hometown... I really love the ways the roofs look under the snow, as well as the scrutinising eyes that seem to follow you everywhere. A few years ago images of the eyes in the roof became a symbol of the fight against corruption, a reminder that "we are watching you".
