It's quite obvious that John would be happier with someone else but for some reason he only comes for food and sex from Mary when he could get all this but some happiness too with someone else. Mary was a hopeless romantic. There was no reason for her to be with John other than she thought she couldn't do any better. This story just shows the cruel reality of people in toxic or abusive relationships. Some people stay in them because they don't feel like they can do any better and that makes me sad.

The lives of both Mary and John are thoroughly explained, and lots of drama is in the plot which makes it very interesting.

I like ending C. It has more detail and tragedy which adds more to the drama and the plot. Because it has more detail, I can get a sense of who the characters are and what lead to the climax. Happy endings get bland and cliche and it becomes uninteresting. I'd rather have a story that has tragedy that lead to that point instead of a bland straightforward sunshine and rainbows ending.

The detail in the story helps the reader connect to Mary and sympathize with her, and I felt the most invested in this story. The ending is tragic and leaves an impact on the reader which is why I think it is the best of all the endings.

#7: F is the most effective, because it ties in the main point of her story. When we talk about "the ending", we have an intuitive understanding that every story will end up the same way. What matters are the details! What matters is the How and Why! The reason "stimulating and challenging" isn't interesting is because we don't know why it is. We want to see (in A) how John and Mary tackle challenges, not simply that they experienced them.
