Our model shows that during the prophase, the nucleus starts dissolving so DNA can get out. The macaroni represents the nucleus dissolving and the string inside of the macaroni represents the two X shaped chromosomes which contain DNA. Prophase is important because it is a big part of cell division. Without Prophase, the new cell would not have a nucleus, or DNA.

Our model shows that during the Metaphase, the chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell, a spindle fibers attach to each of the X shaped chromosomes. The lines between the chromosomes represents the spindle fibers. Metaphase is important because it helps the DNA evenly split into both sides of the cell for the next phase. Without Metaphase, the new cell wouldn't have any DNA and it would die.

The model shows that during Anaphase that each pair of chromosomes split, and pull to the opposite side of the cell. Anaphase is important because it ensures that duplicated chromosomes are separated into into two equal sets. Each set of chromosomes will be apart of the new cell.

Our model shows that during Telophase the chromosomes gather together and form two nuclei, after the two nuclei are formed, the Cytokinesis phase starts. The cell pinches off in the middle, separating the two. The two clay balls on each side represent the two new nuclei and the string represents the membrane or cell wall of the cell. This step is important because it completely divides both cells, creating two new cells. Without this step, both cells would still be connected and there would not be any nuclei.

So without mitosis things like bacteria and other stuff that would hurt the cell and keep it damaged. Mitosis heals it all up.
