The end goal of cell division is to have the cell divide so it can be a whole new cell.  Mitosis is important for living things because if anything gets damage mitosis would be able heal it and without it the cell would still be damage. So without mitosis things like bacteria and other stuff that would hurt the cell and keep it damaged.
