The Great Pyramid of Giza, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, is located on the Giza plateau near Egypts capital, Cairo. The Pyramid was built over a twenty year period, 2589-2566 BCE, and was intended to be the final resting place of king Khufu. Still to this day the techniques used to build the pyramids baffle historians and serve as a constant reminder of human ingenuity and creativity. Take a look at the second image to see what the inside of these pyramids would have looked like.

Under Wave off Kanagawa

"Under Wave off Kanagawa," also known as "The Great Wave," is arguably the most famous piece of Japanese artwork in history. Surprisingly, few people know that the artist, Katsushika Hokusai, originally created "The Great Wave" as part of a series called "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji." The piece was manufactured in bulk and sold at a relatively cheap price, along with other pieces from that series. Hokusai used woodblock printing, a popular practice in Japan at the time, to create "The Great Wave," as seen in the second image. It is not known for sure but experts believe the piece was created around 1831.

This Mask, made primarily of wood, is a typical mask worn by the Dogon people from the Sangha region of Mali in West, Africa. Dogon men wore this type of mask, called a Kanaga mask, during a ritual known as dama. The intent of this ritual is to ensure that souls of deceased individuals would have safe passage to the land of the ancestors. Dama is still practiced today which is why this specific mask is dated sometime in the 20th century. In the second image you can see Dogon dancers wearing Kanaga masks performing the dama.

This buffalo hide, likely acquired by European settlers during the 18th century as they expanded their reach Westward, was a typical garment of "Plain Indians," American Indian people who lived on the Great Plains of North America. As seen in the image above, depicted on the hide is battle scene which was likely used to remember the successes one had in battle. The second image represents how native men would were these robes, often as a way of displaying their accomplishments.
