Mud mask

This mask is supposed to represent a royal demon whose head is made out of stone. I made the design myself, took some inspiration from the demons of The Promissed Neverland (an anime). Some of the challenges I found throughout this journey were painting the mask. I don't really like painting, but despite some technical problems, the mask made it out alive. As I said before, the head itself is supposed to represent stone (I used different tones of gray to force the illusion, the mask was originally flat). The eye, even though I added some varnish to make it shine a bit after taking the photo, doesn't convince me that much. I tried a weird mix with some paint which shone in the dark, but it didn't come out well. This same mix is the one I used on the horns and the fangs. Overall, I like the mask.

First drawing with graphite!

This is one of the first drawings we ever did in class. To be honest, I'm quite proud of it! We placed the drawing taking measurements, method which I absolutely hate (I get bored of measuring every wrinkle very fast). Even though it is not quite visible from the photo, I'm a big fan of small details, specially talking about hair. I tend to draw out each strand and later on perfec it lining hair by hair. It may seem like a tedious process, and it is, but I also find it very rewarding. Moving on, this drawing was a bit of a challenge because we used a tool for blending, which I had never done before (I don't blend at all). But I ended up liking it, so it wasn't that big of a deal. All in all, I think you can see more or less my personal style and what I love the most: detailing.

Oh God I hate this one. I still don't understand the purpose. We firstly drew the lights of the original picture on a paper, which then we covered in ink and rinsed with water. I don't like the result, neither did the teacher despite of what he said (I could see it in his eyes). Yeah, just, let's move onto the next work.

This was a two-days sketch I started in class because I had finished my work. The main idea was to practice anatomy, but the reference was too pretty to ignore so I ended up drawing the whole thing instead (all but the fur, it was getting late). I like drawing with pencil rather than using colour pencils, think you got that by now. Ever since Willem Dafoe's drawing, I've grown fond of blurring graphite, so that's what I did in this drawing.

Okay, so this is my first and only commision (for now). It is a portrait of Nietzsche, the philosopher, for a teacher. I'm truly thankful for her trust, and I really put a lot of effort into this drawing! I hate that the quality displayed doesn't really do justice to the original! As I've already mentioned, I love adding details, so everything from the hair to the coat is full with them. When she said she loved it I felt such relief! Wish I had scanned it or something though.

I wish I had found a better pic of this drawing, however my sketchbook seems to have disappeared with it. There's not really much explanation for this piece, I didn't want to study so I started to draw a demonic being (although if you payed attention you may have noticed there's a Throne at the bottom). The limb that comes from the torax is a tongue, yes, I know. The drawing was just an exploration of my creativity instead of my skills, and I really liked the concept although I might redraw it in the future.

This is the most recent draw I've done up to date. It's Guts, from Berserk (a manga/anime). Now, I've never watched nor read anything about it, but someone started talking about it and showing me pictures and I decided to draw it. It took me about a couple of hours but I finally got it done. Now, there were some problems with this, mainly the complex anatomy plus the armor are a difficult combo for me. I'm not used to drawing muscular men, however I love the result! It had been so long since I last drew in an anime style that it's been refreeshing to do it again. The thing I love about this manga style is the detailed shading although it's hard to reproduce it with a pencil, yet it may be one of my favourite drawings so far!

What a pity that phone cameras reduce the quality so much. Whatever. This is the first drawing we did with colour pencils. It took me way too long, I didn't enjoy the process at all. We had to apply every undertone, and then add the classic skin colour, yet it took ages to blend it and, in the end, I liked more the ear than the rest of the face. What I learnt from this drawing? You don't need to add many undertones to make it look good, just the most obvious ones, and the blend everything as good as you can (use the white pencils please). I have a love-hate relationship with this drawing because I like the result (not my favorite though) but the process was so tiring.

Guess what, I also got bored in class because I had finished my artwork. Therefore, I decided to draw a skull because anatomy yay. However, it looked too empty so I added a centipede which I coloured with 'stolen' highlighters. I prefered drawing the skull though, but it was an enjoyable experience which took about 40mins. I didn't take much care of the shading but I'm pleased with the result. And, by the way, a Google search for 'centipede' is not an enjoyable thing to do if you're bored.
