One thing that stood out to me in these documents was how much these freedman got paid. They use to get it 30 cents a day which is astonishing. That's a little bit of money to give a person who's doing a lot for you. Another thing that also stood out was if a white person were to give a black person any weapon or equipment that white person has to be punished. Whether it's money they pay or jail time.

Document 2 is interesting to me because we have more info on what happened after African Americans were freed. We know what kind of land they received, and what actions they made to be able to help those on starting a new life.

Document 2 interest me because James Baldwin doesn’t pull any punches. He discusses how America doesn’t know what to do with black people now that they can’t be exploited legally. So they find ways to suppress the black population, in particular young black men get the worst of it. That reminds me of document 1c because the black man in that is being exploited and is essentially still a slave.

The connection I can make with James Baldwin quote and the article number 1c is because the article #1c talks about how the Black people were treated after the civil war, that Black people were subjugated by giving them forced labor and paying them the minimum wage treating them like slaves once again, even though they had freedom already (they were freedmen's). And James Baldwin article is talking about that the government (country) is also subjugating African Americans by arresting them unfairly because the economy of the south is declining because it depended on slaves, now that there's no slave, the economy of the confederates is declining. This article are connected because they are talking about the subjugation Africans Americans are receiving because they are free.
