I think the title for the realistic fiction novel Wonder by R.J Palacio is a good title. The title Wonder relates to the story because August is extraordinary and different in the story. Also in the text, it states," She bent down and whispered in my ear. You really are a wonder Auggie. You are a wonder" (310). Augusts mom calls him a wonder and wonder is the title of the story. If I could give the novel Wonder a different title, I would give it the name Faces . This is an odd name for a book but I'll explain why. In the story, Augusts face is disordered. He has to see other peoples faces when they look at him. He also faces many challenges in the story. In conclusion, Wonder is a good title but if I could rename it, Faces would be a great title.

In the realistic fiction Wonder by R.J Palacio, the story takes place in the school Beecher Prep and Augusts house. I think the setting Beecher Prep is the most important setting because that's how August makes friends and won the Henry Ward. That's also where he gained his confidence. In the beginning, August feels uncomfortable. In the text it states, "No way. No thank you. I stop letting anyone take pictures of me a while ago" (70). At the end, he feels comfortable because he has friends. A text to support this is, " I was just smiling a big fat happy smile for all the different cameras clicking away at me" (307). The school has grades 5,6,7 and maybe more. Augusts home consists of his dog Daisy, his mom, his dad , and his sister Via. In his house, he feels more comfortable because he has his own room to do whatever he wants and he knows his parents and his sister won't stare at him. In conclusion, the setting in Wonder takes place in Beecher Prep and Augusts house.

In the realistic fiction Wonder by R.J Palacio, August is the main character in the story. August is positive and funny. He's positive because he understands if people stare at him during his life. A quote from the story to support this is, " They were just being normal dumb kids " (62).This shows that he forgives the people who stare at him in the hallway as he walks. He is funny because he makes people laugh including his family and friends. A quote to support this is, " Mommy and I had a professor in college called Mrs. Butt. Mom was now laughing too. Is that for real?" (13). This shows me August can laugh really easily and hes really funny. In conclusion, August is the main character of Wonder and he is positive and funny.

In the realistic fiction Wonder by R.J Palacio, the point of view is 1st person. Palacio wrote different aspects of other peoples thoughts and all of the chapters are told in 1st person. This helps me understand the thoughts of each character alone in the story. I like reading from different point of views because you can figure out what all the characters are feeling. Although the chapters have different characters in it, they all connect in some way. In August's chapter it says, "Will you check on Via? Mom said to Dad as she lay down next to me" (59). In Olivia's chapter it says, " I wonder how many nights she stood outside his door. And I wonder if she's ever stood outside my door like that" (99). In conclusion, I really like how Palacio writes different aspects all in 1st person.

                                            Theme #1

In the realistic fiction Wonder, the theme is Don"t judge a book by its cover. This basically means Don't judge a book by its appearance but by its personality. This relates to the story because in the beginning of Wonder, people wouldn't touch August and pretended he had the plague.Meanwhile August was just a normal boy but was just born with Mandibulofacial dysostosis. He couldn't help if he was born like that. He didn't want to be born like that. People kept thinking Jack and Summer were weird because they hung out with August. In the text it says, " I eat ice cream. I ride my bike. I play ball" (3). This shows me people didn't know that August has similar interests with everyone. In conclusion, I think the theme in the realistic fiction Wonder by R.J Palacio is don't judge a book by its cover.

Another theme in the realistic fiction Wonder by R.J Palacio is Kind words don't cost much, but they're very powerful. This means it doesn't hurt to say a few nice words to the people around you. You never know, it can make their day. This theme relates to the story because Summer and Jack took the guts to sit with August although it meant they would be laughed at. To support this reasoning, in the text it says, "Hey, is this seat taken? I looked up, and a girl I never saw before was standing across from my table with a lunch tray full of food" (51). But when Jack and Summer hung out with August, they didn't know that they made Augusts day better. If Summer and Jack didn't hang out with him, August probably would have never gained his confidence. In conclusion, Kind words don't cost much but they're very powerful is another great theme for the realistic fiction Wonder by R.J Palacio.

At the end of the realistic fiction Wonder, August wins the Henry Ward. I enjoyed the ending a little bit because he hugs is mom, after all that's how he got into the school! In the text it states, " I took a few steps back and surprised her by hugging her as she walked" (309). If I could change one thing, I would change that Julian comes back to school next year. Not only does this create suspense for August, it also creates conflict for Julian. Julian wants to apologize to August but he's nervous. If I didn't want to change anything but to add something, I would add that they go to Carvel after the graduation. That's where Jack first met August. In conclusion, I really enjoyed the ending but if I could change or add something, I would.

You’re probably wondering how the realistic fiction Wonder by R.J Palacio got started. Well, R.J Palacio was at Carvel with her children just like Jack and August. While getting the ice cream, a deformed girl was sitting by their side. R.J Palacio was inspired to write about a deformed boy. But that wasn’t all, she didn’t know what to name the title for her book! Palacio was also inspired by her favorite song Wonder by Natalie Merchant. She decided to name her book Wonder.

I rate the realistic fiction Wonder by R.J Palacio four stars. I rate this book four stars because they're some weaknesses in the story and mainly because they're always room for improvement. The story is about a boy with a deformed face that starts going to school. In the beginning, he was uncomfortable. Mostly because of a bully. At the end, he has so many friends and he gained his confidence. The bully left the school. The lesson R.J Palacio wanted to teach me was to not judge others by their look but by their personality. Many people didn't like how August looks meanwhile he was a nice boy. R.J Palacio's strength is that she includes different aspects, makes conflicts, and leaves the end of the chapter on a cliff-hanger. A detail to support this is, " ...and really, I think...if I looked like him, seriously, I think that I'd kill myself" (77). This makes me want to read more and see whats going to happen. Palacio's weaknesses is how the ending wasn't powerful enough. I did enjoy the ending a a little bit but it wasn't that powerful like the other parts in the story. Augusts just gets the award and that's it? I think Palacio should of added more information. A detail to support this is, " For everything you've given us, she said. For coming into out lives. For being you" (310). When August talks to his mom, its sweet and stuff but it wasn't that powerful. I recommend this to anyone basically. There's no specific age group that can read this book. This book was very interesting people over 60 can also read it and be inspired. Obviously you would need to know how to read before reading this book. So, probably kids who are 1,2,3 and four should wait until their in 2nd grade to read this book. I want to recommend this to others because I think overall this book was so interesting and it taught me a powerful lesson. Also, the book is so interesting, it makes me want to read it again.
