ACQUISITION OF ḤIKMAH

Definition of Hikmah

In Arabic, hikmah comes from the root word ḥ-k-m (ح-ك-م), which is related to judgment, authority, and decisiveness. It’s the same root for words like ḥākim (judge or ruler) and ḥukm (judgment or decree). At its most basic level, hikmah means wisdom.

Hikmah and ibadah

Hikmah (wisdom) enhances Ibadah (worship) by deepening the understanding and purpose behind rituals, ensuring they are meaningful and transformative rather than just routine actions. While ibadah includes both ritual acts like prayer and ethical behavior in daily life, hikmah guides how to balance these aspects thoughtfully and in moderation.

DEFINITION OF NIYYAH

إِنَّمَا الأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَاتِ

In Islam, the term niyyah refers to the intention or motive behind an act, which is to attain Allah SWT’s reward and draw oneself closer to the Almighty

DEFINITION OF AMAL (عَمَلٌ)

Amal can mean:

Hope or aspiration in Arabic.

Deeds or actions in an Islamic context.

Pure or spotless in Sanskrit.

example

Salah

Zakat

Fasting

Hajj

Kindness

Ehsan

One should first become aware of the importance of Ehsan in Islam, then develop an understanding of how it is practiced in daily life. By striving to embody Ehsan through actions, regularly reflecting on personal behavior, and evaluating alignment with its principles, a person can gradually acquire Ehsan as an integral part of their character and way of life.
