During periods of high flow, as much as 44million gallons (167 million liters) of water passes overthe falls each minute.

A pair of islands split the falls into three parts. GoatIsland stands between the Bridal Veil Falls and theHorseshoe Falls. Goat Island can be reached onlyfrom the New York side. No one lives on the island,but it is a popular tourist attraction. It offers visitorssome of the most beautiful views of the falls. Thesmaller Luna Island stands between the AmericanFalls and Bridal Veil Falls. A bridge connects it to GoatIsland.
