<title>This act makes changing the mileage reading on a vehicle&#39;s odometer illegal. This law states there is a $1,000 fine for those who violate the law, as well as requires a written notice of all odometer repairs (ohioattorneygeneral.gov).</title>

<title>This law came about to protect those buying a used car from being tricked into thinking they are buying a car that appears to have less miles than it actually does, due to the seller tampering with the odometer (ohioattorneygeneral.gov).</title>

<title>The punishment of a fine, as well as the requirement of a written notice for all odometer repairs, will help to protect consumers from loss by making sure they are aware of the mileage of the car they drive/ are buying, and are not fooled into thinking their car is in better or worse shape than it really is (&quot;Consumer Protection Laws&quot; p. 10)</title>

<title>This law personally affects my family because we only buy used cars. By knowing that the odometer has not been changed to make it seem as though a car has less miles on it than it really does, my family can make make better decisions on which car we can get the most use out of. This law protects us from losing money on a car that may not be able to drive much longer. </title>
