Recent advances have improved the oral delivery potential of plant-made bio-pharmaceuticals.
Oral delivery of bio-pharmaceuticals using the B sub-unit of cholera toxin as a transmucosal carrier has brought new hope to this field.
The development of oral plant-based vaccines still requires addressing.
The use of innovative platforms to produce bio-pharmaceuticals cheaply and deliver them through noninvasive routes could expand their social benefits. Coverage should increase as a consequence of lower cost and higher patient compliance due to painless administration. Recent reports on the successful oral delivery of plant-made bio-pharmaceuticals raise new hopes for the field.
