It's implied in the book that the narrator's father wants to go back, her mother doesn't really care that much but slightly prefer Kosovo, and the narrator herself would like to stay. In Kosovo, her father's education would count and he would be able to return to his job as an engineer, which almost definitely pays more than his current job in America. In addition, her mother would be able to pursue her dreams in Kosovo. While the daughter would like to stay in Kosovo, she's financially dependent on her parents and would be more adaptable than her parents to living in a different country. They also probably have family living in Kosovo that they would like to reconnect with.  They'd be able to rebuild their lives in Kosovo, and reconnect with their people and country. It seems as if in the book that she doesn't need any more medical attention, why would she stay in America when she could live a better life in the country she's from?
