Apartheid is the Afrikaans word for separation. It is used as a name for the racist way South Africa was organized when The National Party ran the country from 1948 to 1994. People were separated into four categories (racial groups): White (mainly Europeans), black (native South Africans), Asians (Indians, Pakistanis and more) and colored (People related to former slaves. White people led the country and many places were reserved only for them.
