Today is my first day of summer class! Actually, it is the second day of our summer class, but I was unable to go yesterday due to illness. However, my classmates reminded me that we had a paper due tomorrow regarding the traditional game Tiyakad or Sangkayaw, which our professor had assigned us. That night, I was quite concerned because I wasn't sure if I'd be able to attend school the next day due to my temperature. Thank God, my fever has passed. So far today, I've learned a lot about Philippine traditional games, including Patintero, Tug of War, Tiyakad, and Tumbang Preso/Lata. From its definition, history, origin, materials, and equipment, as well as the rules and mechanics of the games, Understanding traditional Filipino games is significant for a variety of reasons. These games are not only enjoyable to play but also culturally significant. Learning and playing these games allows individuals to connect with the Philippines' rich history and tradition. It generates a sense of community and camaraderie when people gather to engage in these traditional activities. Furthermore, these activities encourage physical activity and social engagement, which helps children develop vital abilities such as collaboration, strategic thinking, and sportsmanship. Today's session will be lively and entertaining as we play four classic Philippine games: patintero, tug of war, tumbang preso, and tiyakad. These games have delighted generations and are an important part of Philippine cultural history, reflecting the spirit and values of the Filipino people. They are more than just recreational activities; they are cultural artifacts passed down through generations, representing the core of Filipino culture and community. Playing these games brings back memories of my childhood in the province. Remembering those memories makes me joyful and sad because I miss my childhood. Based on my experience today playing Philippine traditional games, I can say that it was an exciting, entertaining, and tiring day. Also, I’ve experienced getting hurt playing the tug-of-war game. Not just me, but there’s also some of my team members and other team members who got hurt in this game, but it’s normal and it's all part of the game.

Another exciting,fun and atiring day! Before we play,there’s a reporting about the given topics of other philippine traditional games such as the luksong baka/tinik and Agawan Panyo. Based on my experience playing the 3 traditional games is not easy,especially if you can’t understand how to play it, what is the rules and mechanics of that game.In my childhood days in province, we didn’t play the agawan panyo that’s why it’s hard for me to understand that game. As a result we loss the game.So, learning and experiencing Philippine traditional games offer numerous benefits, including educational value that teaches important life skills like teamwork, strategy, and physical coordination. These games provide a unique way for individuals to learn about Filipino culture and history in an engaging manner. Moreover,the significance of learning and experiencing Philippine traditional games lies in their ability to preserve cultural traditions, promote social interaction, develop physical and cognitive skills, and instill values of sportsmanship and camaraderie. My brother told me that this is the most exciting, tiring,and enjoyable subject in my first year, which is the Philippine traditional games, which aim to reintroduce the traditional Philippine games as a form of physical activity while learning the cultural context and rules. This session we are having a presentation again about traditional games, but today the game we will share and show to the class is from our provinces. So, we have three groups: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. As a provincial girl, I belong to the Visayas group. Each team should prepare three traditional games from their area. In our group, we have Batuhang Bola, Agawan Base, and Sipa. After the presentation, we will play the games selected by our instructor. The games he chose were from Luzon and from the Visayas, which were Doctor Kwak Kwak and Batuhang Bola. Well, in the first game we played, we lost the second game too, but I will say that today is an exciting, entertaining, and fun day because it reminds me of my childhood memories. Also, it's like we've gone back to childhood, just like you didn't think about any problems; you just thought about having fun with friends around you.

Another day, another game to play, another fun, exciting, and entertaining game. Today, we have 2 games left from Mindanao and Luzon, such as Sipa sa Lama and Lawin at Sisiw. Actually, I don't really know the rest of the games now, especially Sipa sa Lama,because you need to kick the rattan ball without the ball falling on the ground. At first, I had a hard time playing Sipa sa Lama. By the way, the sipa sa lama is just like the sipa we play in our area. In my childhood, I didn't play that game; that's why I had a hard time playing it. All my teammates don't know about this game. As a result, we lost the game. For the second game, I would say that Lawin at Sisiw is a really fun and exciting game. So, the goal of this game is that one player is the hawk trying to catch the chickens, while the others are the chickens trying to avoid being caught. This is a challenging game. Thanks to our colleagues who devised a strategy to win the game. These two games are really challenging, especially the Sipa sa Lama, but we do our best to complete the game.

Today is an exciting and challenging game because this is the last activity we’re going to do, which is the culminating activity, where 4 teams are going to play the 4 traditional games prepared by our instructor, such as Agawan Panyo, Sack Race, Dutch Ball, and Patintero. The four teams have color codes such as blue, red, green, and yellow. The red color is where I belong on our team. The exciting and challenging part of today’s event is that we can compete with athletes. I’ll never forget the Agawan Panyo games because I got hurt, but it’s a fun and exciting game. However, we're unable to play Patintero because it's raining and the floor is wet. In all the games we’ve played, we had the lowest scores among all the teams, but the important thing is that we’ve experienced and enjoyed the culminating activity.
