The gown itself appears not too out of the typical style, however important elements change that: The size of the jewelry is far larger than typical and the cut/paned sleeves are fairly rare in Italian portraiture. If there wasn't a German hat in the way, the girdle is the size of a woman's hand and draped in emeralds. It is the perfect kind of fanciness to me, which would make it incredibly appropriate to wear to a masque, even if by now the historical references are pretty distorted and never really reflected Jacobeian fashion. However, something like this outfit is what I would wear, although depending on the specific theme of the masque, it would most likely be adjusted to fit better. This is just a generic outfit to give a flavour of what that fashion is like in its fancier form and to show how well it would fit a masque. Note how despite the length of the dress being only down to the knees, the fashion is still very modest, with face and hands being the only bits of skin on show.

I imagine the bottom of the dress would be made out of tool to give it a slight fluff and airy feel to it. I also imagine the bottom would explode in color. I added the flowers and lace detail because I also love those things on clothes. To make the bottom of the dress and mask stand out, I kept the rest of the outfit simple. The fan has music notes on it to incorporate my involvement in music. I have played the saxophone for twelve years. Another feature of my dress would be hidden zipper pockets so I don't need to carry a purse.

My costume is to represent the European pilgrim ways of the Camino de Santiago and the Via Francigena. The red/white trousers is the colour of the signs to Rome and the scallop shells on the top and as earrings is the sign of the Way of St James. The blue and yellow star headdress is to represent the European Union across which these trials travel. The white top has the keys of St Peter on. The cloak is to represent the style of the medieval pilgrims and is has a design of paths across it and is blue to represent travelling under the open skies. The character carries a pilgrim staff and is wearing Roman style sandals.

I think gowns from this era are very romantic as well, so that being said, I feel it would be perfect for a masque. I'm not too skilled in designing clothes, but I think it turned out alright. I wanted it more of a true red, than a magenta, but it works. In reality, I'd add jewels on the sweetheart neckline, sleeves, and hat veil to make it sparkle.
