In my classroom, I’ve noticed that the younger children (especially at the beginning of the year) they tend to start in the home corner with tea sets and pretend food. Or sand or play dough. A mound of dough is a birthday cake, a sand toy is buried treasure, the ground is lava.

As the year progresses, we tend to see children taking on aspects of role play like: superhero play, mums and babies, pretending to be police officers, fire officers, doctors, vets, etc

Some of these play scenarios extend from props and planned experiences, while others stem completely from the children’s imaginations.
