SLIDE 4 ( ACOTAR Review Pt. 1) Agree? Disagree?

"I don’t usually read fantasy books, so in general I don’t think this book (or series) was necessarily meant for me. However, I do think that this book was okay and that my criticisms of it, and the series, aren’t just because I don’t typically read the series. It was a weak introduction to starting out the series and I’m pretty surprised that this series is as popular as it is considering that."

SLIDE 5 (ACOTAR Review Pt. 2) Agree? Disagree?

The book starts out with an unoriginal exposition in my opinion, which I don’t mind: the girl who relies on only herself, who survives against all odds, terrible family, etc. The story that continues is rather boring, however. It takes a while for the story to pick up, and once it does it’s already the end. The end was intriguing which made me continue the series despite the overall experience

SLIDE 8 (ACOMAF Review Pt. 1) Agree? Disagree?

This author seems to have a tendency to write in a way that I feel is detrimental to the audience. She tends to keep the readers in the dark (within the first and second book) about plot points that are really interesting, and then shoves it all in the end of the book. Although I think there’s merit to not revealing the mystery/secret until the end, keeping a major plot point hidden from the reader…

I do sound like I’m hating on the book a lot, but I think the thing that saves it from having a lower rating is the beginning and end. I felt like I got more insight on what the other characters from the first book have to offer to the plot during those times."

The only times I think I really was involved in the fantasy side of things was the ending of the first two books. Everything in…"

SLIDE 11 (Overall Opinion of the ACOTAR series pt. 2)

"…the middle was pretty tough to get through. I didn’t get attached to any of the side characters either, unfortunately. Maas seems to lean on romance as a crutch for the uninteresting fantasy world she built. If this series was fantasy alone, I doubt its ability to stand on its own. I also think that I would prefer multiple perspectives within the first two books, but I assume that’s not a popular opinion."

There are times when certain celebrities write memoirs about their lives that aren’t very interesting. This was not the case for Jennette McCurdy’s memoir. It really gave me perspective on the fact that you truly don’t kno what someone might be struggling with."

SLIDE 16 (Book that disappointed me: The Cruel Prince)

"I honestly forgot about this book until we brought it up in class, so I thought I’d mention it again. It’s been a bit since I read it, but from what I remember, my gripe with this book was the romance the author tried to push between the two main characters. I felt that they just didn’t fit together romantically. The plot was alright. This was a recommendation, so that’s why it was disappointing."
