Although the activity is centered around watching films, the club aims at nurturing young minds to grow and expand their knowledge about world history, culture, ethnic backgrounds and gain confidence as well as creating a sense of unity and foster a spirit of partnership across age groups through a shared appreciation for films. Here children watch a variety of movies across different genres and languages. Every screening is followed by a discussion that centers around the story, script, art, direction, cinematography, editing, background score, and overall effectiveness in presentation. The children then write their own reviews of the film as this can help develop their analytical skills and critical thinking. Children’s reviews of films may also be featured on a commonly shared portal so they can be read by their friends and families. Movie club@AISC provides students space and opportunity to collaborate on a project to promote team spirit. Before the end of the season, students are encouraged to create a 3-min short film on a specific theme of their choice. From scriptwriting to poster designs, students get to work on their short films independently in teams of two. They are encouraged to express views that help them transmit powerful and creative messages through the film. These films may later be presented during the ASA showcase. This provides students who may wish to pursue their interests in visual arts, an opportunity to develop the necessary skills they would need to follow their future goals and also a platform to showcase their talents. Overall a casual atmosphere, food & beverages are encouraged.
