I did end up achieving my purpose by providing myself the necessary time to familiarize myself with what I needed to understand. Without the time I spent, I doubt I would not be as confident as I am now with actually going to Spanish with some knowledge of what I am studying. I chose to write because writing and typing actually calms me and it gives me something easy to look back on. For example, typing out a text message is always easy to type and I am able to actually look back at what I said. I could have tried to explain the purpose, but writing allowed me to cite evidence and be more trustworthy. We all teach in the computer classrooms in Storer Hall this fall so I decided I needed to tell them about the new parking lot I discovered right next to the building. I wanted to tell them quickly because some of them teach tonight and might find this information useful. I used Slack because it reaches the entire group and it is instant/quick. And they can answer me--but also each other--and have a conversation while I'm teaching and away from the Slack channel. I also was able to take a picture of the parking zone sign and easily attach it to my message. 
I think it was effective because folks wrote back while I was still walking with other parking updates and thanks. 
If I'd emailed I don't think they would have gotten the message quickly enough to act on the information.

I tend to find myself writing about every experience and the different cultures I pond across and discover. The last thing I wrote about before entering this class was the homesickness that I'm currently experiencing at the moment. I travelled all the way from Saudi Arabia to attend my dream school, UC Davis, although its been quite a ride already. I haven't travelled alone before to a place with complete strangers, and without my family by my side. Sometimes I find it difficult to conduct the simplest chores and experiences, because growing up, everything was handed to me. 

I've been in California for over a month and I've already learned to do many many things through my experiences. 

I enjoy writing about all the obstacles I face in life to look back at them later in five years, or maybe even ten years. I also write to pass on my experiences to my future children to give them a sense of what I've been through and what the world can offer. 

To me, writing isn't a "chore," nor does it feel like a task mandated. Writing gives one the sense of relief, without the presence of anyone needing to listen.
