Those on the inside, including the Director of Grants, Grants committee members and other Executive Board members, understand the importance of the position as well as its influence. The greater counselor base of Troy Camp may not know the role of Grants in the organization’s existence. It is important to educate the counselors on the importance of grants for Troy Camp to run its robust offering of programs. I would like to increase the visibility of the Grants Committee because it has struggled to gain consistent counselor involvement in past years. First, the committee as well as the Director position itself could be explained to counselors at an early Fall 2021 meeting to highlight their role, importance and overall work for the organization. This could also offer a glimpse into a typical Grants Committee meeting, which will hopefully encourage counselors to join. Second, it is important to reach out to counselors who may have an interest in grant writing, so I would like to create an interest form to be sent out after the explanation of the committee. It offers the intersection of writing and finance, and I am sure this combination will resonate with some of our counselors. Finally, I want to work on collaboration within the committee. Completing a grant can seem daunting. So, I envision committee members will work in pairs to execute their roles under my supervision. Many of our Troy Camp alumni are employed at various companies and organizations that provide grants, so it is important to establish relationships with them to increase our eligibility for said grants. I want to work with our future Director of Communications to utilize the alumni database to connect with certain alumni who have insight and access to grants that could benefit Troy Camp. The alumni network will illuminate more opportunities for grant possibilities as well as overall revenue to increase funds for Troy Camp. With the help of the Director of Communications, we can keep track of alumni with potential grant opportunities as well as establish positive relationships with them and the companies they work for. This usually comes from the USG Philanthropy Fund, but in recent years we have not received their financial help. When asked about this discrepancy, USG provided nebulous reasons that are not well defined in their guidelines and requirements. In this regard, I want to speak with USG representatives to better understand the reasons why Troy Camp is not receiving funding. I would like to be able to outline concrete steps to ensure funding for future events from USG. Understanding the stipulations of the Philanthropy Fund will allow a closer relationship with USG as well as greatly fund our programming. The GNC requires testimonials from the students Troy Camp works with, and this information is acquired through camper surveys. Consistency in survey collection is the key to enhancing our GNC application. While this does not require an overhaul of current methods, it is important for counselors (especially cabin counselors) to be reminded of this necessity at Yearlong Programming and other events. Since in-person activities remain uncertain, it is important to remind counselors to record these surveys at Yearlong events no matter the format. We could reach out to local businesses as well as those we have established good relationships with through the alumni database to supplement our program offerings and supplies.
