This is an admin job not the role of expensive academics. Given when I first tried to access the module list of students for this semester there were only a few enrolled onto the module (ie 2-3 weeks before the start date) but now the numbers have risen by around 10 this means as an academic you have to keep finding the info and updating your spreadsheet, so checking regularly. Why is this not done for us? I don’t get time in my workload plan as module leader for repeatedly chasing info about students. Does the university really consider this an appropriate use of our time? - the centrally managed extension request process has been problematic: module leads are not informed when students have an extension, large numbers of extensions are being granted (and the team have no idea of who or why) - it would be useful to know why so many of our students are given extensions to inform our course planning. 
This has caused problems for the marking team as 50% of one module cohort were granted extensions, which meant the team had only five working days to mark and moderate a large number of submission to ensure feedback was released within the university guidelines.

In the past I could encourage their participation in class. People who are now leading things are flying by the seat of their pants and not clear.
If you ask questions there is sometimes a response that indicates it is something that staff should know and be aware off. But honestly, we do not. There is too much going on.
