Nursing sim is an app that can be used to help brush up on a variety of nursing skills. It can be used from assessing a patient, to determining how to delegate tasks. It gives you a variety of patient's with a scenario and you have to rate the level of instability, unpredictability, and complexity of each case. This is something that is important to know how to do because the higher priority patient's need to be cared for first. Time management is key in nursing.

Full code is a medical simulation app that can be used for many different levels of experience and medical professionals. The app has you start from the beginning to the end of taking care of a patient in a code situation. At the beginning you start by taking the history of the patient, doing an assessment, and you can also look at the vital signs and order labs and test as needed. At the end of each scenario it gives you a score in 6 core clinical competencies. This is a great tool for nursing practice because it scores you on how well you do in a code situation, although it is not perfect in scoring you skills in real life, it is a great tool for practice.

Simulators are a great tool to have when students are distance learners. If they have access to a computer they can practice simulation scenarios. There are a lot of extra steps using a simulator for distance learning because it is not in person, but it can also benefit a distance learner. There is a CPR simulation that has to be completed at some hospitals before you can validate live. It has you set up the AED, shock the patient if needed, and everything. It has you go through all of the steps as you would in real life, it is just by computer instead.

Simulators and virtual reality tools are great ways to brush up on a skill that you have not done in a while, or that you have never done. Simulators are great because they can be programmed to talk back and also portray what a situation can look like in the clinical setting. A simulator creates a patient that can be practiced on for an ICU, Medical Surgical, or any type of clinical situation. A good phrase to use with simulators is, "This would be what would happen in a perfect situation". In any case technology has it's flaws, but in the grand scheme of things this a great resource to utilize if you have access to it.
