Someone that is capable of empathy, even in disagreements, and understands that we all just want what’s best for our child. We need someone who involves families, as well as educators, in decision-making and regularly welcomes opportunities for feedback and improvement. We need someone who doesn’t make excuses for everything and is responsive.

I will also add that one of my biggest wishes is that they split this position from that of the SELPA Director. It is too much for one person to manage at all, let alone manage well. The responsibilities of the SELPA Director have increased in recent years and I do not believe it makes sense to have it be a combined role anymore.
