Levittowns were designed to provide affordable housing to many Americans, while Santa Clarita Valley housing is a bit more expensive. Despite the differences between Santa Clarita Valley and Levittown housing, Santa Clarita Valley housing is essentially a modern-day Levittown that has adapted to modern times. My personal view on how Levittowns and Santa Clarita Valley might be drastically different from other viewpoints because each community is different from other communities. Despite the purpose Levittowns were designed for, many African American veterans were denied access to these homes. For African Americans, the issue wasn't adjusting to life in Levittowns, the issue was being allowed to live in Levittowns. Many of the design features of Levittown interior and exterior housing were best described as futuristic, metallic, and mismatched. A large portion of furniture had very extravagant colors that did not fit in with the interior of housing. We have a small, local pool area where residents can interact with other members of the community, though I've never really entered the area. Outside the housing area, there is a commercial area that includes restaurants, a market, and other establishments. Just outside the community, there is a large, empty area with dust and dirt. Using "cookie cutter" houses have not changed much since, making this one trait for a modern-day Levittown. Another similarity is that there are recreational areas for members of the community to interact with each other. Both in Levittowns and my community, some families would often interact with each other and hold small conversations. The last similarity between Levittowns and my local community is the proximity of each other. There were many forms of racism during this time period and it manifested in one way with the exclusion of African Americans from being integrated into the community. Many African Americans were denied access to living in Levittowns, including war veterans. Today, there is no longer an issue for exclusion depending on ethnicity or skin color. Another difference is that design of houses has become less excessive. There are no longer multiple colors that stand out inside the houses and wallpaper. There are no more strange colors on furniture such as toilet paper and no more patters on curtains. The structure of Levittowns and Santa Clarita Valley are similar, but the designing is different and communities have become more inclusive. There are many similarities and differences between Levittowns and Santa Clarita Valley, so depending on what an individual's community is like, the argument on whether the community is a modern-day Levittown can go either way. Personally, my community has many traits similar to that of a Levittown.
