The rectangle in the middle is the picture of the little girl's parents. They probably died and the family could not maintain the money and power like before. So the little girl was forced to marry to the boy from other powerful noble, because the little seem unhappy and unwilling to do something. Also,the little boy put his foot on the dog. He and the lady stand next to him seem very arrogant. The dog is the refection of the sorehead family.
The rectangle in the background is a mirror. The painter is drawing the king and the queen of the country. So the mirror show the reflection of the paint.
