Subtraction: First, you line up the numbers and find a common denominator. Then, you transfer the whole numbers and their fractions to the right. After that, you subtract. If the numerator on top is smaller than the bottom numerator, you need to borrow from the top numerator's whole number. To borrow, you subtract one from the whole number and make it into a whole version of the denominator (EX: 12/12). Add that to the top numerator. Then, you transfer the new numbers to the right again. Subtract like you would with fractions, just with whole numbers as well. If possible, simplify or make an improper fraction into a mixed number, adding it to the whole number.
