Description - This is a website about the potential predictions of Nostradamus in 2019, as well as a short recap of previous years.

Connection - There are multiple connections here, unexplained is one because people don't know how he could be so accurate with many of his previous predictions. Red herring is another here, instead of focusing on interpreting his predictions for what people think will happen in 2019 they spend most of the article talking about past prediction accuracy. Law of large numbers comes into play here because I'm sure millions of people could each predict a day for the start of a world war throughout history and 1 would have to be correct. There is also confirmation bias as people are not trying to point out the flaws and differences but only the similarities.

Description - This is a website focused on Nostradamus predictions that have yet to come true.

Connection - This website tends to pick a more skeptical side, while not being completely skeptical and still referencing the Hitler prediction. It talks a lot about how people are constantly claiming anything and everything to be part of Nostradamus's predictions, and many are making their own claims.

Description - This site is about the accuracy of Nostradamus's predictions.

Connection - While some of his predictions do seem eerily accurate, many of the ones people claim are accurate tend to be more grasping at straws than anything else. If you read through the article there are a lot of red herrings that people use to connect words to meanings for his various predictions that probably shouldn't be used. This leads people to overstate the accuracy of these predictions. As well there is a lot of confirmation bias where people are picking and choosing which words to follow and which ones not to.

Description - Twin towers picture from 9/11

Connection - The 2 connections I could see here would be agenticity, because people are trying to assign a reason or meaning, or someone responsible for the attacks, and are constantly believing conspiracy theories about it, and appeal to authority, because people think that Nostradamus is an authority on all tragedies that happen because of his predictions, even when they only vaguely resemble an event.

Description - Discovery Channel video claiming the truth about nostradamus

Connection - I believe one of the biggest contributors to people believing Nostradamus's prophecies is the observation and perception reason for belief, this is because many of the re-tellings of the stories are subject to the perception of people at the time, and are likely being broken telephoned throughout history to result in what we have today being compared to his quatrains. This video goes into depth about a lot of his predictions, and even says at one point every line has links, when referring to one of his predictions in relation to 9/11, some of these links though are shaky at best and are just a matter of how one perceives the quatrains.

1. What did you learn about the topic that most surprised you?

The thing that surprised me the most was just how many people actually believed it, the fact that after the 9/11 attacks the top searched name in Google was Nostradamus and not Bin Laden was kind of alarming

2. Provide a real-life example of how this topic is relevant or interesting to you?

This is a fairly hard question, since I don't think Nostradamus has ever actually predicted anything that is of relevance to me.... I know my Dad talked about him and the Mayan calendar and ancient aliens a lot when I was a kid though

3. Which research did you find most interesting and why?

I found the videos fairly interesting, especially the one about the woman who though she was getting messages from him, that one mostly because it was interesting to see the look back to years ago and all the things that didn't actually come to pass, like the gulf war being the start of WWIII

4. What are you most likely to remember from this research?

I will probably remember how easily people can grasp for things to be there that aren't necessarily there.

5. Having completed all the course content which pseudoscience belief do you think is the most harmful?

I think ideology is probably the most harmful since people have used religion as the backbone to arguments resulting in atrocities for centuries, and with new things like anti-vax and faith healing in an age when medicine is so much more advanced for people to just let their families and children die for a belief is just dumb.

6. If you could pass on your knowledge to a family member or friend, which information do you think is the most important to pass on?

If it was at all possible I would convince my girlfriend that ghosts aren't real, but since that isn't possible, I would probably just tell them to keep a skeptical mind when looking at new topics to make sure they don't get fooled.
