I've found ALDinHE invaluable as 12 months ago I was new to managing a team of Learning Developers and as a librarian I am from a different profession. Has been great to attend community of practice meetings and signpost the team to the mailing list and CPD events. The professional recognition route is straightforward and a few team members have started on this. There's even THE book which has supported me a great deal - 'How to be a Learning Developer'.

One of the greatest benefits is the opportunity to meet like-minded professionals—people who are passionate about teaching and learning—and inclusive student support. It’s a space for exchange, support, and collaboration, offering rich opportunities for professional development. And importantly, it’s fun!

When your university's understanding of LD is nearly non-existent, ALDinHE has provided me with a community of practice and a real sense of belonging and support. Through my membership I have attended conferences, kept up-to-date with evidence-based practice via the journal and the podcast, contributed to the Collective Diary, and viewed resources and initiatives to take forward for my own teaching. I feel it is the platform that has influenced my teaching pedagogy the most.

I started engaging with ALDinHE CPD sessions in 2018 and then found the LD@3 sessions that started during the pandemic invaluable. Being able to easily access focused CPD that is directly relevant to my role rather than having to adapt T&L training aimed at academics is fantastic. I am now part of some of the CoPs, have attended the conference, and joined the mentoring scheme. Being part of the community makes me feel valued even when I don't always feel that in my day to day role in my institution.

Delighted to be part of this proactive and compassionate community of professionals. I have been part of the ALDinHE community for less than a year, but have had several opportunities to see first hand the tremendous value it brings to the learning design community and to the teaching and learning profession as a whole.

The ALDinHE community has given me the opportunity to try so many new things. For example, attending and presenting at the conference, editing and reviewing for the journal, and now being part of the conference committee. These opportunities have come with clear and helpful support, where it is safe to take risks, learn from your mistakes, and ultimately grow professionally and as a person.

Since I first started working in this field, ALDinHE has offered me opportunities to connect with other LDers across the world – colleagues who inspire me and whose work pushes me to do better. The community has been welcoming, curious, critical (in a good way!!), and fun (which is saying a lot for online events!). I also consult JLDHE for relevant scholarship and share articles with my team all the time. The editorial team has been amazing and even provided the encouragement I needed to get a piece published. I honestly don't know where I'd be professionally without ALDinHE!

ALDinHE represents an identity that LDers are striving for. It has given me numerous CPD opportunities - conference, webinars, collective journal, CeP/CeLP, mentoring, JLDHE, Learn Higher, Love LD and Podcast, to learn but a few. It provides lots of resources and food for thought, and has inspired and enhanced my practice. ALDinHE also represent a community of people who come from diverse background and enjoy working with students in higher education. The community is approachable, welcoming and supportive.

With over 22 years of experience in learning development, I’ve always been passionate about collaborating with students and colleagues to design strategies that foster more autonomous and effective learning.
