She challenged Texas lawmakers who made abortion illegal. In the lawsuit, Roe alleged that the state laws were unconstitutional and nondescript. She also followed by saying how it was a huge violation of her personal rights and privacy, which should be protected by the 1st, 4th, 5th, 9th, and 14th Amendments.

Roe v. Wade. (n.d.). Oyez.

Abortion access is an economic issue because the access to and rejection of abortions directly impacts the labor market and economic outcomes. Women who have kids at the peak of their careers are forced to face a gap on their employment record and it can make it more difficult to get back into the work force. Furthermore, raising one child in the U.S annually comes with a price of $20,813. The decision whether to and when to have children is an economic one with staggering effects on one's professional and personal life.

The campaign has been able to call for experts, influencers and the public to demand an end to stigma and call for reforms. Since the launch of this campaign theres has been a direct increase to acceptance surrounding women’s healthcare and abortion.

the right to abortions was not a central aspect of the women's suffrage agenda but it wasn’t anti-abortion either. Thanks to the women’s rights movement, women were allowed more of a say politically and were taken more seriously in their opinions and their issues. The second wave of feminism that came in the 60’s and 70’s piggybacked off the tremendous work that was put in by fellow women during the suffragist movement. During this second wave of feminism abortion started to be seen by many as a public issue and a way that healthcare oppressed women. In constrast to the suffragists these new activists didn’t just focus on the political aspect but the social aspect and they went even deeper. One of the leaders of the women’s rights movement during this time was Betty Friedan.

This document describes stances of the abortion argument which is pro choice vs pro life. A common argument for pro lifers is the idea that abortion terminates potential life. Whereas people who follow more pro choice ideals believe a fetus does not develop into a baby until the embryo reaches a certain week or stage in development. Many religious people or groups specifically Christian’s grapple with the stigma of abortions because of the bible and other religious scriptures where it is labeled as a sin or immoral. This has since prompted a very intresting question between church snd state. The separation of church and state is the idea that government is responsible for remaining neutral toward all religions and not recognizing any one religion or allowing it to control our legislation or government.

In the current circumstances regarding the overturn of Roe V Wade the issue of women’s health has been brought to light. Many citizens of the United States have seen that the ban of abortions has been negatively correlated. Women and mothers all around the US have been trying to get illegal abortions because of their state banning them. There are so many risks that associate with women’s mortality rates and pregnancy. “If more people are forced to continue unwanted pregnancies, there are bound to be more pregnancy-related deaths: A study by the University of Colorado estimates a 24% increase in maternal deaths if the United States bans abortion federally. They predicted the increase would be even higher for Black patients, at 39%”

(plannedparenthood.org).

The debate of Roe V Wade is a based solely off of women’s reproductive rights. Although even before we talk about pregnancy, it all starts at conception. American society has put such a stigma surrounding getting things like birth control and protection that many think they’ll be okay without it. Birth control and protection are vital necessities that need to be placed if one wants to willingly prevent pregnancy.

During the 1970’s when Roe V Wade first became a thing, was a time period in which women were only deemed fit for fulfilling household duties. They weren’t allowed to speak up, and if they did it was shunned upon and looked as disrespecting their family. They (women) weren’t allowed to have a say about their bodies from the start, and instead of progressing, it has remained the same way. In a result of an unwanted pregnancy, women are mainly blamed rather than both parties involved.

On June 2022, For a right that has been upheld for almost 50 years, the Supreme Court ruled that there is no federal constitutional right to abortion. Immediately this decision would cause over half of all 50 states to prohibit abortions. Abortions in strictly phrobited southern states like Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, etc pose a threat for not just women who have had a miscarriage, been raped, or require a medical abortion to save themselves but their doctor as well. If a doctor is caught preforming an abortion or a woman is caught having received one they will both be immediately jailed and given a felony. Even in states that use to have little to no restrictions they now have constraints that were not previously there before that have made it hard for women and girls to get the medical help they’re seeking. Over 2.5 million unsafe abortions occur each year and are responsible for pregnancy complications associated with nearly 8% of maternal deaths. (WHO) with the overturning of Roe v Wade its only likely this number will increase along with many other devastating results for women.

Since the beginning, women have been held to a lower status than men. Whether it comes to opportunities, job, bodily rights etc, women have had to fight for every chance men were already given. The topic of Roe V Wade being brought up in the 1970’s was a big shift in American society as it brought together women all around to fight in the rights they deserve. This brought up movements and marches like the women’s suffrage moment continuing, peaceful protests and much more; things that women didn’t even dream of doing. With the recent overturn of Roe V Wade, we have though moved back in time. With the government deciding women’s rights to their own bodies and states banning abortions, takes America back decades. Why should women fight for something that was already addressed over and over again?
