Now you and I both know that we're always kind of glued to our devices and it's sort of starting to become a problem. According to OSF Healthcare, a report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) claims that "children ages, eight to 10 spend an average of six hours per day in front of a screen, kids ages 11 to 14 spend an average of nine hours per day in front of a screen, and youth ages 15 to 18 spend an average of seven-and-a-half hours per day in front of a screen." This shows how addicted kids are to the internet and how we should really be looking toward solving this problem.

Internet addictions also have a heavy toll on our physical health. It can cause you to lose sleep and exercise time which is not healthy for a child with an addiction. The individual physical health impacts that internet addicton causes are body aches, the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, insomia, vision problems and unhealthy amount of weight gain/loss and weakened muscles (source).

The impact of Internet addiction on the health of this group has crucial consequences not just for their individual social and economic outcomes but also for the future of human development as children typically have lower self-control and intellect than college-age populations or adults.

According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, "Excessive Internet use may create a heightened level of psychological arousal, resulting in little sleep, failure to eat for long periods, and limited physical activity, possibly leading to the user experiencing physical and mental health problems such as depression, OCD, low family relationships and anxiety." People don't understand how severe an internet addiction can be but they still refuse to seek phycological aid. An increasing number of studies on internet addiction show that it is a psychosocial problem that we should be looking toward solving.

Internet addiction is belived to be a very curable condition. It may see hard to cure, but it isn't that hard to cure. However, if it is gone on for very long, it will become very hard to cure, since it becomes a part of our daily life.

Here are some ways to get rid of your addiction:

Since internet addiction mainly targets teenagers, the first but most effective thingyou can do is limit your screen time. Ideally, eblocker.org states that teenagers (13-19) should only have around 75 minutes of screen time daily. Of course, this is the ideal amount of screen time a child should have, however, I also think that if I tried to do this schedule, I would not be able to adhere to this, so I think that 2 hours should be enough for teenagers.

Secondly, one of the other most important things is to participate in more outdoor activities than internet activities. This will cause you to become more active and make you less unhealthy since you will strengthen your body with exercise and also improve your mental health since you will find interest in other aspects and not depend on the internet. It cleanses you of the harmful effects of the internet.

Lastly, you should try to become more creative, obviously you can use your phone to search for ideas, and use it for something productive, this will cause you to feel more at your own pace since the internet is always fast paced and makes you want to know everything. Creativity causes you to explore more and pace yourself.

I hope you understood that internet addictions are extremely harmful to children as they can cause a lot of physical and mental health problems which isn't healthy and an avoidable circumstance if taken care of properly. If you think that you or someone you know has an internet addiction, I suggest you yourself seek help or alert others if you think it could be harmful. Even we (Zohair, Shantanu, & Hamza) kind of have an addiction to the internet but at least we're trying to work on ourselves which is the bare minimum.
