Trail of Tears

The trail of tears was an event that occurred to get the natives out of the U.S. land. Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act in 1838. This act let the troops herd the natives out of the land we wanted, west of the Mississippi. Many Indians died on this journey.
This was successful and not successful. It was successful because it gave us the land we wanted to make large plantations to have good farming. It wasn't good because it made many natives die or become very angry at us for kicking them out.

Bank Veto

Andrew Jackson veto a bill that would have renewed the corporate charter of the second bank of the U.S. This upset many people. He vetoed it because it was unconstitutional and not necessary. He also vetoed it for political reasons which no other president had done because it's not fair to the people.
I don't think this was successful because it upset many people and changed their views on Jackson. It made him seem like he was a king who could veto anything.

Spoils System

After losing the election, Jackson felt like he was shorted because of political reasons. Once the election came about again and he was elected he created the spoils system. This was when he would put his family, friends, and people who supported him into jobs.
I think this wasn't successful for most people because everyone thought this was unfair and rude of him to do.

After the war of 1812 the national debt was at $58.4 million. After becoming president he wanted to pay all of that off. He promised he would make funding better for more public activities. More farmers started buying western land.
I think this was a success because it made the economy boom.

Texas leaves then we annex them

In 1836 the people of Texas officially declared their independence from Mexico and the U.S. After this Mexico kept trying to get Texas to give back land. Texas were afraid this was going to cause war and they wanted to annex into the U.S. In 1837 Jackson recognized them as independent and declined the annex. Then in 1845 they got annexed in.
I think this was a huge mess, but in the end it was a success because we got Texas into the U.S. and it is a large portion.
