The activity for the students will be performed in the Leisure Zone which is a local sports centre. The game will then be played in their sports hall for around 30-40 mins. We had to take into consideration what would be appropriate to the age and also consider how many children will actually be taking part. We also needed to think of what would be fun for them as well as being challenging but not impossible. 
At the end of the lesson, Rhianna and I came up with the decision to play the game bench ball. The rules for Bench Ball are simple - firstly we will start with two even teams. After choosing the teams, one member from each team will go as the 'goalie' standing on the bench on the opposite side to their team. The team will have to throw the ball to their goalie, if the goalie catches the ball then the person that threw the ball to the goalie can then join the bench. The team can score from any point beyond the green line. If anyone that joins the bench falls off then they must stay off and try and get back again. Whilst trying to get the ball to the goalie/s, you will have to go around the pitch and throw the ball around the team as you can not move whilst holding the ball however, you can pivot. The other team will try and get the ball off of the team but it is a non-contact game so if they do make physical contact then the ball will automatically go the other team. The aim of the game is to get all team members on the bench. At the end of the game, whatever team that has the most members on the bench or all of their team on the bench are the winners.

We will also have another rule in place to make sure that the ball played in the activity wont be thrown over the head, chest passes and bounce passes only. To start off we will make sure that everyone playing is wearing suitable footwear and clothing. We will also advise the children to bring a drink to keep them hydrated. Before the game begins we will make sure that any obstructions on the pitch have been removed so the students can freely move around. Our first idea is that if we have more than 20 students, we will split the teams up in groups of 3 or 4 depending on the numbers. We also came up for ideas if the game didn't last long enough, we could possibly do best to 3. If the game takes too long to finish, the winner will be the team with more people on the bench.

We began with writing out a kit list which included equipment we would need for our activity, 2 benches, a ball and some bibs to separate the teams. We got the equipment off of Jack (the college sports officer) and we went over the Leisure Zone to practice. Whilst playing with some of our class mates, we did create some new rules. For example, you can only hold the ball for 3 seconds however if there are only two of your team left on the pitch you can hold it for 5 seconds. We also came up with a distance from which you can start shooting. Whilst communicating with the group we were loud and clear and only gave straight forward instructions that everyone could hopefully understand. We made sure we listened to any of the questions that may have been asked by the students and answered them to the best of our ability. Before beginning the activity we realised that there were a few students that were not physically capable to stand up on the bench, we then took away the benches and used cones to outline the length of the bench but they had to stand on the line. Before a real match began we insisted that the students took a few minutes to practice the game in their teams before so they had a better understanding of the rules and how the game worked. Whilst observing the match, we had to observe very carefully to check that the students were following our instructions so it was all fair but still enjoyable. We had noticed that the students didn't have enough room so during the game we expanded the court so they had more space to move around in because otherwise it could have been less safe for the students to play in as they would be bumping into each other. It is important that a register is taken before the teaching begins in case of any fires etc.

Before starting the game we had to make sure that the two separate teams were clear enough so i handed around bibs for one team. I was able to explain the rules clearly and loudly to the students so everyone could hear, I was also around the pitch at all times trying to encourage each team to cheer or to score etc and to offer any other assistance. I had a student come over to me as he was a late member to the game and he had asked me to explain the rules to him again which i was more than happy to do. We had a reasonable amount of space to play our game however we did make adjustments as we knew that it would be easier for the game to be played in a larger space. At first it was hard to find out the amount of numbers we had per team as a few of the members took a time out and sat on the side, as the game began we started to gain more team members on either side, we had about 8 people per team which was a perfect amount. It was quite hard to get the students attention at first, once we started explaining things to them and gave them a few minutes to settle down they were a really good team to play with. As our game was a non-contact sport there were no accidents or injuries which was good as everyone was able to take part and enjoy themselves.
