-Creative functions such as editing, composing, sound effects, dialogue looping, mixing all represent the film realizing the vision and wishes of the director.

-The Producer’s function is the develop and nurture a project from start to finish.  They are there from the beginning in terms of finding the writer, financing, ideal script, appropriate director and work with the director selecting all of the creative talent.  The producer, in some cases,  may have worked on a film for many years before a team is hired to make it.  They typically have a vested interest in the success of the film.

  

-Line Producer- “does all the work, doesn’t get the credit”

-Responsible for the all the below-the-line decisions, which include managing the budget on a day to day basis, hiring all crew, working with vendors and all of the department heads working on a film.  This person reports to the producer.

-Co-producer – usually a credit that goes to someone representing a minority investor, or someone who’s responsible for a certain part of the film (music, special effects)

-Associate Producer – often a soft credit that goes to a writer, a minority money-raiser, or someone who’s new at producing.
