         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>#7: Authorʻs Inspiration</strong></p><p>In her early 20s, Sandra Cisneros realized that an image of her type of house and neighborhood had not been represented in books, tv, and film. It made her feel ashamed and depressed. She wanted to write about her culture and experiences that were unique to her, so she wrote House on Mango Street for a school assignment.</p><p><strong>This gives insight into the novel because</strong> it tells us that this is Cisnerosʻs story and it is an accurate representation of where and how she grew up.</p><p><br></p>]]></description>

There have been stage adaptations of "The House on Mango Street," including a notable one by the <strong>Greenway Arts Alliance. </strong>"The House on Mango Street" is not the first book that Sandra Cisneros wrote. Her first published book was titled "Bad Boys," which was released in 1980. The novel is set in a Hispanic neighborhood in Chicago, Illinois. Esperanza Cordero, is approximately 12 years old and 14 by the end of the book.</p><p><br></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Group #2: Writing Career</p><p>Sandra Cisneros began writing as a young girl but became serious about her craft during college. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Loyola University Chicago in 1976 and later received a Master of Fine Arts from the Iowa Writers' Workshop at the University of Iowa in 1978. Cisneros is best known for her novel <em>The House on Mango Street</em> (1984), which portrays the struggles and dreams of a young Latina growing up in Chicago. In addition to novels, she has written poetry, short stories, and essays. Some of her other notable works include <em>Woman Hollering Creek and Other Stories</em> (1991), <em>Caramelo</em> (2002), and the poetry collections <em>My Wicked Wicked Ways</em> (1987) and <em>Loose Woman</em> (1994). Cisneros’s writing often explores themes of identity, cultural heritage, and the experiences of Mexican-American women. She is also known for her essays, including the collection <em>A House of My Own: Stories from My Life</em> (2015). Her literary contributions have earned her numerous awards, making her an influential voice in contemporary American and Chicana literature.</p>]]></description>

Cisneros was one of 7 kids and the only girl. Cisneros wrote her first poem when she was 10 years old. And did not write more until she was in highschool. After highschool she attended Loyola University of Chicago, then graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Then continued on to the University of Iowa where she graduated in 1978 with a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing. She was a Poet, Novelist, Teacher, and a Essayist. <strong>This gives insight into the novel because </strong>it shows background and can give us understanding of why Cisneros had wrote HOMS.</p>]]></description>
