Building a Community of Readers:
It is important to remember to not recommend books to students based on what you think they “need”, as librarians, we should leave that to the counselors. Another thing I learned was to give kids time to talk to one another about the books they are reading.

Evaluating Nonfiction:
Link to Padlet on Evaluating Nonfiction.

Genres and Formats:
I learned that there are only two true genres: fiction and nonfiction. Everything else is either a sub-genre, category, subject, or format. Formats are things like poetry, drama, picture books and short stories.

Evaluating Picture Books:
Link to Padlet on Evaluating Picture Books

Why We Share Literature with Kids:
Link to Padlet on Why We Share Literature with Kids

Building a Community of Readers:
I would like to share these tips for building a reading community with my future administrator, for example the importance of allowing students to go to the library outside of their normal class visits. Students need as much access to books as possible and allowing them to go back to the library and check out new books can help feed that love of reading.

Evaluating Nonfiction:
Link to Padlet on Evaluating Nonfiction

Genres and Formats:
I plan to share what I learned about genres and formats with my children, current students, future students and colleagues. I think it is important to educate people on things like this, so they do not continue to spread wrong information. I will definitely find, or make it if I have to, a poster showing something similar to Dr. Perry’s concept map of genres and sub-genres.

Evaluating Picture Books:
Link to Padlet on Evaluating Picture Books

Why We Share Literature with Kids:
Link to Padlet on Why We Share Literature with Kids
