During my days in elementary school, I was mainly interested in sports as for extra-curricular activities. More specifically, I was so excited when I made my intermediate boys basketball team back-to-back years. I gained such a sense of self-belonging and accomplishment being a part of my team, as my passion for basketball only grew with the success of our team. This was a physical space I was so proud to be a member of and I look back on these memories fondly.

One of my most fond memories from elementary school is when I was involved in our production of the musical Hairspray. I adored the rehearsal schedule and process as we would use the colourful drama room and open gymnasium after school. Everyone involved in the production became very close and by the end of the year, we were all proud of the show we put on. It was a critical moment of collaboration as it would not have been made possible without all the teachers, staff, stage crew, parents, and students helping one another.

My favorite extracurricular activity in elementary school was cross country, a sport I was truly passionate about. I loved the challenge of competing against kids my age and pushing myself to improve. While I was never the fastest, the competitive nature of the sport kept me motivated and taught me valuable lessons I likely wouldn’t have learned otherwise. Cross country also helped me form stronger bonds with others at school and gave me something to look forward to each day, knowing there would be practice to enjoy.

Some of the activities that I was very interested in during elementary school were dance (specifically ballet), as well as soccer and fashion. These activities stuck with throughout the entirety of my years as a student, and I continue to take interest in those same activities/interests today.

In elementary school, my extracurricular activities included reading to the kindergarten classes during recess as well as, lunchtime supervising during lunch. In grades 11 and 12 I was a “Students Working All Together” (SWAT) mentor for grade 9 students to help them transition into the new school environment. I participated in the “Best Buddies Program” in grade 11 to be a social mentor. In grade 12, I was also a peer tutor for grade 10 students. These activities helped me be more engaged in the school community and the community around me.

In elementary school, I always loved being outside, especially during gym class or sports events. I loved doing track and field as well as cross country. Those spaces gave me the chance to practice running and stay active, which I enjoyed. At the same time, I felt most at home in classrooms or study areas that encouraged academic focus, like quiet reading corners or the library.

In elementary school, what captured my attention the most was our "peace garden". In the middle of our school, we had access to a garden at the centre. It was open for anyone to use at any time. It was something I found very interesting because many schools do not have something like this. My teachers throughout my time at my school would try to take us to the garden, when the weather was good, to teach a Religion or art class.

Some of my fond memories of school are the extracurriculars I participated in. In elementary school, I really enjoyed being on the W5H team. I also was on my school's swim team in grade 7 since I love to swim. One year, I participated in a tutoring program where the intermediate grades tutored the younger grades. I was also very involved with leadership in my 7th and 8th grades, which continued throughout my high school years. I am so glad I participated in these school extracurriculars and opportunities that captured my interest!

In elementary school, I really liked being in the environment club because it gave me a chance to learn about nature and how we can take care of the planet. We did fun activities like planting trees and cleaning up the schoolyard, which made me feel like I was helping out. I also loved being in the choir because singing with my friends was so much fun. It was exciting to learn new songs and perform at school events.

When I was in high school I was on the hockey team. This was something I looked forward to each year and it helped create a sense of community and shared enthusiasm and spirit. Another thing that stood out to me from high school was a field trip I took with Grade 12 earth sciences class. We did a 4 day canoe trip in algonquin park. This experience was one of the most impactful experiences I had a student.
