This is a japanese song so making the english lyrics rhyme while still keeping the original meaning is REALLY HARD and in doing this you can loose some of the meaning of the song. I want to preserve the original meaning, so I didn’t get some of the english cover lyrics. Now even translating this itself is pretty hard, because some words have multiple meanings

(for example the line ‘Our original colours has been completely forgotten.’ can also mean ‘Our original colours has been completely wiped away/disappeared/taken away’ and the line ‘Colouring the arms of middle schoolers’ can also mean ‘Middle schoolers colouring/cutting/writing/drawing/ on their arms/wrists.’ and the line ‘As if you were here…’ can also mean ‘So that you will be there too,’, and the line ‘My shattered body,’ can also mean ‘My scattered body/pieces,’ etc.)

now this might not seem like a very big difference, but it can COMPLETELY change the meaning of the song! This is where I come in. I know a fairly good amount of japanese so I get the tiny details that the translation misses. This can let me create better synonyms for some words depending on the meaning of the song. That is why I choose this song. The producer is known for sprinkling in different meanings, especially ones that seem fairly sweet or nice at first, but if you go into it, it shows a very dark side of the song. I LOVE these types of songs! But anyway, this is getting too long. What I want to say, is that If the paraphrasing looks kind of different form the original translation, don’t be surprised. Here is a link to the song with the translated lyrics I use for this song.

Warning. This translation has the wrong time tense. I had to change some of it to make sense.

This translation has some times where it COMPLETELY changes the verse. (e.g. ‘Why am I not here?’ I actually ‘Because why? Because it won't happen no matter what.’ and ‘Now that I am… The same.’ is actually ‘And I’ll… do this.’) I think they did it to have it make more sense to the english listeners, but I will directly translate this from the original, not the translation. The translation is there so you can understand what the verses are saying. Paraphrasing the translation will -in my opinion- completely loose the original meaning.

ALSO, I won't paraphrase the ‘why, why, why, why’s and the ‘therefore, therefore, therefore, therefore,’s and the ‘and then, then, then, then,’s. You can’t really change that…

Meaning (Or at least my take on it)

Now this is a VERY LONG explanation, but I'll try to keep it short.

This song is interesting because there are two meanings. There is a light meaning in one way of reading it, but there is another, darker meaning if you read it another way. The producer, Powapowa-P, was famous for their dark takes on life and mainly society. He mainly took light songs, with upbeat music, or a cute singer, to make it seem light, but when you dig deeper, you would find out it has a much deeper meaning. There are a lot of other producers who do this too, but this is the only one I’ll talk about now. This song has a light meaning at first, but if you re-read it with a different image in mind it completely changes.
For example, in the line ‘Elementary schoolers paint their faces with mud,’ you can either take it as little kids playing around in the mud, or you can take it as kids trying to find an ‘identity’, a personality. But it isn’t real. It’s mud, not paint. It is a dull color and is fake.
In the line ‘Middle schoolers painting color onto their arms,’ It can mean that they are drawing on their skin (which is pretty common in that age group), or it can mean middle schoolers cutting their wrists because they are depressed (which is also common in that age group). They are painting red colors onto their wrists/arms. (They are probably depressed because of their peers, which leads to the poisonous/venomous kid. But I will talk about that later.)
The line ‘High Schoolers paint color into their hair’ can mean that they just dye their hair. Or it could mean that they are trying to stand out, or try to defy society and its expectations to be ‘proper’ and ‘professional’. Either way it conveys the same message. They, like the elementary schoolers, are trying to find an identity. But unlike mud, this is paint, and is real.
In the line ‘College students paint colors onto their lungs,’ it can either mean that they start smoking (thus painting black smoke on their lungs), or it could mean that they are breathing in the ‘pollution’ of society. (Now this is kind of a stretch, but listen to me.) They are gossiping and trying to ‘fit in’ to society now. They are a part of society and are breathing out the same pollution that they breathed in. They have learned to ‘be successful’. (Okay, even I think this so a bit too much, but it is actually a really popular theory so I’m putting it in.)
All of these experiences are forming into the color they will all eventually be, black. The singer in this, is trying to stop it, as they talk about venomous kids poisoning another person they held dear to them. I think the poisonous kid represents the ‘bullies’ that hurt them during their life. The bullies make the person eventually turn black and commit suicide. They talk about wanting to do something to bring the person back, but eventually saying that there is no helping it, and we should just ‘dance a waltz’ despite everything. I think the waltz represents them accepting it. The waltz is a very mature dance, and it is usually associated with proper adults. She talks about her, too being ‘lost in the colors’, which I think means she, too, has been poisoned. They state that the venomous kid, too is a victim and thus is ‘splattered’. I think this means that the poisonous kid was once pure too, but then got mixed with other venomous colors, and the chain goes on.
