The 1920's may seem like a more simpler time for politics compared to today. But, that could not be farther from the truth. With three different elections, the death of president Harding, scandals upon scandals, and the beginning of The Great Depression, it was not as simple as people make it out to be. During the 1920's, many people believed that it should be the Governments role in protecting individuals, especially children, workers, and consumers. This was thought to protect the smaller businesses from being bought out by the bigger ones.

After Woodrow Wilson suffered a stroke, the democrats wondered if he would try for a third term as president. They were shocked when they found that he decided not to run so they had to rush to find their next candidates. They eventually choose James M. Cox. The Republicans settled on Warring G. Harding. Both parties were divided on several important issues that were the keys to winning the presidency.
