Antiphospholipid is a syndrome that generally affects younger women. It is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system of the affected person mistakenly produces antibodies that attack the tissues of the body. These antibodies in turn cause the formation of clots in the veins as well as in the arteries .The blood clot creates obstacles in the path of blood flow which may be life-threatening as it may result in a heart attack or stroke. This generally creates a problem for pregnant women as the growing fetus may not get a proper blood supply. The reason for this occurrence as most people who are diagnosed are symptom-less.
#patientselftestingathome #bloodtestathome

Research has shown that statistically, people on warfarin blood thinners have an 80% chance of a hospital or emergency room visit/stay within a 2 year period. Weekly testing drops this adverse event by 90%. Be sure to talk with your doctor before making changes to any of your medications, which could affect your warfarin dose or monitoring schedule. Also, be sure to tell your doctor about any changes to your general health or diet because certain foods, such as leafy greens, potatoes and some herbal supplements, can affect your body’s response to warfarin.

They are often required to monitor their INR level and report to their Health care providers according to their health conditions. This usually involves visiting a doctor’s office or a lab on a regular basis to have a blood test. A PE can be dangerous because it can reduce oxygen levels in the blood and put strain on the heart. A subsegmental PE is a small blood clot that lodges in a small branch of the pulmonary artery. Although a subsegmental PE is not as dangerous as a larger PE, it can still cause symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, and an irregular heartbeat.

The inflammation of the liver caused by certain viruses is known as Viral Hepatitis. The liver, one of the most important organs of the human body, performs the function of regulating metabolism and detoxification. When the liver is inflamed or damaged its efficiency decreases. Inflammation, acute pain, and swelling occur in the liver may be dangerous if not treated on time. Viral Hepatitis can be both acute and chronic. If it lasts for less than 6 months it is acute and if it exceeds more than 6 months it is Chronic. It is also contagious as it may spread from one person to another. There are five basic types of known Hepatitis.

Treatment for Multiple Subsegmental Pulmonary Emboli Without Acute Cor Pulmonale typically includes anticoagulation therapy. This can be done with either an IVC filter or oral anticoagulant medications. If the patient has a history of DVT, then they will likely be placed on a therapeutic dose of WARFARIN [COUMADIN]. If the patient does not have a history of DVT, then they may be placed on a lower dose of WARFARIN or given another type of oral anticoagulant. The decision on which medication to use and the dosage will be made by the treating physician based on the individual patient’s situation. In some cases, thrombolytic therapy may also be used in addition to anticoagulation therapy. Thrombolytic therapy is typically only used in cases where there is a high risk of complications from the pulmonary emboli, such as if the patient has an underlying heart condition.

The prominent cause of this disease is a genetic mutation. There are different types and its type depends upon the factor of the affected gene that has been passed from one or both parents to their offspring. When the VWF is very low it disrupts the functioning of blood platelets and they fail to attach themselves. As a result, uncontrolled or excessive bleeding occurs. It has also been found that most people suffering from this disease also have a deficiency of FACTOR VIII protein – responsible for hemophilia. Hemophilia affects only males but Von Willebrand Disease affects both males and females.

Patient self-testing (PST), which uses capillary blood samples on home point-of-care coagulation monitors to determine the international normalised ratio (INR), is one remedy. We performed a prospective research using the CoaguChek S to see if patients could obtain accurate INR levels using PST (Roche Diagnostics, Lewes, UK). The three primary outcome assessments were patient acceptability as determined by a questionnaire, anticoagulant control, and comparability of INR readings acquired by PST and the hospital laboratory.

This enables your patients to discuss the adjustment of their medication directly with you and lets them to know their INR value within roughly a minute of administering their self-test. Best practise guidelines advise stable patients receiving long-term VKA therapy who exhibit motivation and competency in self-care measures to self-manage rather than undergo outpatient INR monitoring. Systems for patient self-testing provide a comprehensive approach that can help you enhance patient care, enhance efficiency, and lower healthcare costs.

A PT/INR home monitoring system is the easiest way of measuring your PT/INR level at home. PT or the Prothrombin time is a test which is generally done to identify and manage bleeding disorders. A protein produced by your liver called “Prothrombin”, which is present in blood plasma, is converted into active thrombin during coagulation. INR or the international normalized ratio is a ratio or a calculation from PT results which is used to monitor how well the blood thinning medication WARFARIN (COUMADIN) is working to prevent blood from clotting. The PT time can be longer by using blood thinning medication such as WARFARIN. Patients who are on WARFARIN may have a Mechanical Heart Valve or were diagnosed with diseases such as , Atrial Fibrillation, Venous Thromboembolism, Pulmonary Embolism or Hyper coagulable State and are required to monitor their PT/INR levels on a regular basis. This can easily be done with a PATIENT SELF TESTING KIT at home with a drop of blood from your finger stick and you can know your INR result in seconds.
