- For me, I think the most important element of digital citizenship is digital literacy. It is because being literate on any digital platform helps me and other teens to have the ability to access any technology easily and to be able to spot differences in what content is real or fake. Digital literacy also allows us to be more productive, and we may be able to create real information that we can share on social media platforms that is beneficial to people or students of a particular subject. Based on my experience, I was once tasked by my I.T. teacher way back in high school with guiding grade school learners on the basics of using a computer. It was obvious that those kids still don't have any experience with digital technology; one kid asked me how he could easily search online for information. I simply told him to go to any search engine and type in the information he wanted to learn, then click "exit" after gaining the knowledge he wanted. - I personally think that every living individual needs information to learn day by day in order to live in this world with full awareness of their surroundings. As a student, searching for information is a daily routine for me, and for others, this is not unusual since I go to school every week to learn and to have an answer to what the teacher asks me. There's a personal instance in my past that requires me to search for information in our history class about a certain event from the war so that I can have an answer if the teacher surprises us with an oral recitation. -I corrected someone with false information, and it was my own mother. One night she sent me a video through Messenger regarding a viral video about a chocolate spread that has its own spreading knife below its lid. The very next day, she bought that chocolate spread from a local grocery store and immediately opened the lid. She's confused that there's no spreading knife below the lid, and I laughed very hard because I forgot to tell her last night that it was fake or could only be available in some other countries. My mother still couldn't believe she got trolled on the internet, but she just laughed about it. We both laughed it off, and I told my mom not to trust things quickly from the internet. - Personally, I never expected this course to be helpful and relevant to my strand because this subject has little to no impact on my future plans. Little did I know that Media and Information Literacy was the most impactful and realistic course I have ever studied; I was unaware of what is happening inside social media and how much damage it could affect a specific individual. MIL helped me change my perspective on social media and taught me how to avoid any harmful risks I could experience. The new skill I have acquired from this course was always to be vigilant when surfing the internet, avoid fake news, find out which information is real or fake, inform others about disinformation, and many more.
