They hunt for their food on top of the ice but with it melting they are unable to do so. Polar bears have a high energy diet and need to consume many calories daily or else they rapidly loose weight and eventually starve to death. The former event also has a significant link to Loss of biodiversity. This is the extinction, or reduction in numbers of species. Many factors can cause a specie to become endangered or extinct such as loss of habitat as a result of climate change, natural disasters, deforestation and even poaching. For example Polar Bears are now on the endangered list due to climate changes causing their habitat, the polar ice caps to melt.
