In the opening scene, witches appear and what they say can be seen as good and evil at the same time. Act 1 Scene 1 line 11 states; "Fair is foul and foul is fair." The witches also learn of the name Macbeth but at this stage we do not know whether Macbeth is good or evil. Later into Act 1, Macbeth is depicted as a good and honorable man. A sergeant's report initially tells us of Macbeth's courage and bravery in the battle field. He later sends a letter to his wife, Lady Macbeth, saying that that the witches told him that he will be Thane of Cawdor, and then he will be king! The first prophecy is already fulfilled and Shakespeare let's us know that although Macbeth is kind and noble, he fantasizes of killing!

Act 2 opens with a scene which is depicted as very dark, as Banquo and his son, Fleance, tell of no moon or stars. Macbeth joins them and once they leave he sees a bloody dagger appear out of nowhere! He precedes to stab the King of Scotland King Duncan in his sleep! Macbeth returns to Lady Macbeth with bloody weapons in hand. She too turns evil when she helps Macbeth get away with it by taking the daggers back to where the slaughter took place. Later a war hero, Macduff, arrives and is taken to King Duncan's room where he sees the drugged servants and then the horrific sight of a dead King. Macbeth kills the servants on the spot and the late King Duncans sons flea in fear of being next.

Often in our society we try to cover up our actions by putting the blame on someone else. In the end the best way is usually the honest way.

Macbeth and Banquo meet and discuss upcoming events. The act starts with tales of celebration but it later turns bad when King Macbeth orders two paid killers to hunt down Banquo and his son as they go horse riding. They managed to conquer Banquo but his son escapes, never to be heard of again. This act goes from bad to worse when Macbeth starts seeing the ghost of his dead "friend" Banquo. People of today can be haunted by their doings, owning up to them is the best way to avoid guilt. The people are left confused as they cannot see the ghost but they can see Macbeths crazy rants toward the ghost. The once brave and ambitious Macbeth has turned into an evil killer.

This scene opens with the witches up to no good. They say a chant and cast a spell on the contents of the cauldron in front of them. The play has taken a turn for the worst by this point. The witch feels a pricking in her thumb and says someone evil is coming. A King is normally depicted as loyal and good, but Macbeth is depicted as evil. And that coming from a witch!!! The witches show him 3 apparitions and Macbeth is content he will survive until he asks of Banquo's next of kin. They will all be kings!
Macbeth orders the Macduff's be killed, women and children alike. When Macduff learns of the news, he breaks down. Malcolm, the late King Duncan's son and heir to the throne, plans to behead Macbeth. Macbeth has gone mad with power and it will soon lead to his downfall. If the people of our society weren't so bent on succeeding, they might have had time to enjoy the little things in life and also help others along the way. Instead they step on whoever is in the way.

Lady Macbeth starts hallucinating in her sleep of all the blood she and Macbeth have spilled throughout the play. She has gone mad with guilt. Later, Macbeth hears of a few armies on their way to conquer him. Malcom, Macduff, old Siward(Malcolms uncle), and young Siward, his son, are all on their way to Birnham Wood. They join the Scottish soldiers that have deserted Macbeth. The soldiers are ordered to cut branches down and hold them in front of them so that they can not be counted. This looks as if the woods are moving toward Macbeth's castle which is what was portrayed by the witches through the apparitions in Act 4. Macbeth is killed by Macduff and the play is ended on a high as the new King Malcolm rewards the soldiers who fought with him a more distinguished title. They return to Scone where kings of Scotland are crowned and once again, Good triumphs over Evil!
