That's not the trouts only problem dioxin has a major effect as well the graph says that when the dioxin goes up the trout goes down and if the dioxin levels are at 100 almost everything in its area dies and the levels were at 200&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

Also in activity number 10.1 the graph shows when the sea lamprey is up the trout population also goes down and because there are no predators for the sea lamprey and they reproduce fast and in large quantities there is too much for the trout or the lake to handle. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I believe that&nbsp;both the sea lamprey and the dioxin levels affect the trout population. According to 10.1, the graph shows that whenever the trout population went up, the lamprey population did as well because the trout was the lamprey's prey. In activity 12.1, on the graph, the trout population declined when the dioxin levels rose because the dioxin was killing the trout. In the fisherman's journal, the fisherman said that there were circular shaped wounds on the trout. These are the same wounds that the lamprey leave on their prey.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I believe that both the sea lamprey and dioxins caused the decline of the trout because in activity 10.1 it suggests that before the sea lamprey were introduced, the population was stable, and the same thing happened with the Dioxins, they were both introduced in the 1950's time period, and when the sea lamprey were gone, the trout was stable, and also when the dioxin level was much lower, the trout became more stable and was rising. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>in activity 6.1 what we wrote down shows that the sea lamprey is a big threat to the ecosystem in the great lake. The sea lamprey has no natural predators and they can adapt quickly to their new environment. The trout are the sea lampreys prey and since there are no predators to eat the sea lamprey the lampreys need more food and that makes the population of the trout decrease drastically.   </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I believe that trout populations were affected by sea lamprey, and dioxin levels because, according to the Fisherman's Journal,  strange, painful wounds were discovered on trout, while the invasion of sea lampreys was mentioned as well. Also, according to Trout Mystery, we can see a graph with trout levels, and around 1970, trout populations were dangerously low, which is around the same time that sea lamprey were at a all time high. Lampreys are an invasive species, and aren't part of the natural food chain which can affect the food chain negative leading to under population and overpopulation to species, like the trout under populated. ASide from sea lamprey, dioxin levels affected trout negatively as well. According to Analyzing Dioxon Data, dioxin is a dangerous chemical which an kill living things when it reaches high levels. Also, we can see a chart hat shows the levels of trout and dioxin. Because of this, we know that dioxin is affecting the trout, because when dioxin levels were at a peak, trout levels were at a significant low, and vice versa. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In the dioxin data reading the graph shows that went the dioxide went way up the trout population rapidly decreased. This is an example of the dioxide caused the trout population to decrease. Also, In the 10.1 reading about how sea lamprey affects the trout, they also showed a graph and when the sea lamprey rapidly increased by a lot in 1950 the trout population decreased by a lot. So therefore, I think that both the sea lamprey and dioxide made the trout population to decrease by a lot.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The lake trout did not decline just because of the Dioxin or the Sea Lamprey, it declined because of both.  in the fisherman's journal he writes about there being marks on the lake trout he caught and sometimes lamprey, showing that there were lamprey eating the trout.  But the lamprey was not the only thing that hurt the fish, in the mid 1900's Dioxin levels shot up. During this time the lake trout population was going down, and probably not coincidentally at the same time the poisonous toxins were released in the lakes, so that is why the trout population decreased because of the sea lamprey and the dioxin level increase</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I believe that both the sea lamprey and the dioxin levels affected the trout population because in the years between 1953 to 1970, when the lamprey started to increase, the trout population started to decrease. In activity 7.3 it showed that the lamprey were successful predators because just as an adult, they are able to kill up to 40 pounds of fish, including the trout. In activity 6.1 it showed that the sea lamprey is an invasive species and is killing the trout in large numbers. It also has no predators in it's invaded habitat. In activity 12.1, it shows that when the dioxin starts to increase, the trout are immediately dropping in population. Activity 12.1 also shows that the dioxin level was over 100 ppt for 20 years in the Great Lakes. Dioxin can also cause death and deformities for the trout. </div>]]></description>

In "Analyzing dioxin data" I found that dioxin is very dangerous and could cause death, deformities, and cancer. In "How does lamprey affect the trout" I found that an increase in the sea lamprey population led to a decrease in the trout population. In "analyzing dioxin data" I found that dioxin levels have been over 100ppt for 20 years. In "there are a lot of lampreys out there" I found that lamprey has no predators. Those are the reasons I think the trout population went down because of dioxin and sea lamprey.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I believe that both the sea lamprey and the dioxin levels affected the trout population because in activity 10.1 in the chart when the sea lamprey comes the trout population decreased in a very short amount of time. In activity 12.1 if you look at the chart you also see the trout population decreased by a lot even reaching 0 because of the toxic chemicals in dioxin! But when the dioxin decreased the trout population started to increase.</div>]]></description>

Also the graph in activity  12.1 shows evidence that the trout decreased as dioxin levels increased, that was also around the time that the sea  lamprey where introduced into this ecosystem. </title>

<strong>Landon Richey - The Sea Lamprey and the Dioxin affected the Lake Trout's population.</strong><br><br>I believe that both the Sea Lamprey, and the Dioxin caused the Lake Trout's population to greatly decrease. Some evidence supporting the Sea Lamprey lowering the Lake Trout's population is in activity 6.1. In activity 6.1 it includes the Sea Lamprey's prey, and the Lake Trout is one of them. Also, in activity 10.1 when the population of the Sea Lamprey went up, the population of the Lake Trout went down, and after that, the Sea Lamprey population went down and the Lake Trout's population went up, suggesting that the Sea Lamprey is one of the causes of the decrease in the Lake Trout population. In activity 12.1, it states that if the Dioxin levels are above 100 it means that almost all living things will die, and in the Great Lakes, in the 1960's, the level was around 200. Also in 12.1 there is a graph of the level of Dioxin with the Lake Trout's population. When the level of Dioxin greatly increases, from the 1950's to the 1960's, the Lake Trout population decreases, and when the Dioxin levels decrease around 1970, the Lake Trout population increases. In the end, both the Sea Lamprey and the Dioxin both could have affected the Lake Trout's population.</div>]]></description>

My first piece of evidence is in Activity 12.1, which states that dioxin has polluted the great lakes and killed fish in the lakes. My second piece of evidence is in the graph of activity 12.1, which shows the trout rapidly decreasing and almost becoming extinct when the amount of dioxin rose. My third piece of information is that in activity 10.1, it shows a graph of the trout declining rapidly when the amount of sea lamprey went up. My fourth piece of evidence is in 6.1 it states that the sea lamprey both affects the fisherman and trout because it kills the trout which makes fishermen have less food to sell. My last piece of evidence is that in activity 7.3, it shows the lamprey kill up to 40 pounds of fish (which include trout).</div>]]></description>

The trout are an invasive species, and they reproduce really quickly [60,000 eggs per year per one sea lamprey], which leads to them eating a lot of the trout, and because they are s-swimmers they are a lot faster than trout (half-body swimmers).          <description><![CDATA[<div>I believe that both the sea lamprey and the dioxin levels affected the trout population. While I was looking through activity 12.2, I found out that in the graph, when the dioxide increased, the trout decreased. During the years 1950-1970, this happened. According to the graph in activity 10.1, I also found out that when the sea lamprey increase, the trout decrease. This also happened during 1950-1970. The population of the sea lamprey at its highest peak was 300 thousand sea lamprey! Then in activity 7.2, I learned that the sea lamprey attaches to the prey and sucks the blood out of them while getting oxygen through their gill slits. The female sea lamprey also can have 1000 eggs, this is also another reason why the population could have skyrocketed which lead to the decline of the trout. Finally, in activity 7.1, I learned that trout are half-body swimmers while sea lamprey are s-swimmers. S-swimmers use their whole body to swim which makes them faster than the trout because the trout are half-body swimmers. Since s-swimmers use their whole body to swim they can quickly swim to slower prey and kill them. This is why I think both the sea lamprey and dioxin caused the trout population to decline.</div>]]></description>
