Last week was a very interesting class. I never would have thought that a drum circle/drum lesson could relate to health and health administration! I found that the drum circle was quite valuable. Being able to improvise and adapt to an already set rhythm is something that we'll have to do in health administration and especially when it comes to visiting and improving the Mona Center. I already love how interactive this course is, but utilizing a resource such as the drum lady was really thinking outside of the box and it pushes the limits on how we learn in a collegiate setting. I think the only thing that didn't work is that not everyone had that they were accustomed to, but that's also the fun part about it and we all learned something completely new. This was definitely a stand out experience for me, in this class as well as all the other classes I've taken in my undergraduate career.

This week we conducted interviews about breakfast and what students think about when they first hear the word breakfast. I teamed up with Atharva and Vinson and we interviewed 3 people: Nadia, Tony, and Ruixing Wang.
My person was Ruixing Wang and when he thinks of breakfast he thinks about:
- Eggs
-Sandwiches
- Bread
- Bagels
This morning in particular he ate a panini with egg and bacon. He normally skips breakfast as he wakes up early and it's easier to eat at 11am for lunch. He doesn't eat healthily either. Since he doesn't eat in the mornings or healthy, I offered some suggestions like a smoothie or protein shake that won't make him feel heavy but is still healthier than relying on fast food or sugary cereals.
Overall, I think the interviews went well, but it was harder to get students to talk as they just want to study. Plus, it was early morning on a Friday and many students are barely awake.

Today in class we really focused on solutions that would apply to Jim (our Mona Center person). Tim is ~50 years old, African American, and male. We wanted to target his nutrition and awareness of the resources within his community.
Adam, Erin, and myself wanted to address 3 questions:
- How might we encourage Jim to make use of the community's resources in order to promote health, wellness, and community engagement?
- How might we use local buses/restaurants to help promote nutritional awareness and engage the community?
- How might we make learning about nutrition feel like Sunday night football, BABY!?
These were our focuses and the solutions that we came up with are to:
- Partner with ALDI
- Find fresh and healthy food options
- Recruit help from UMD Food Science majors/Nutritionists
- Use people from Mona Center to promote services

I unfortunately wasn't able to take pictures with the 2 people that I had the chance to speak to, so I don't have any to upload. On the bright side, these conversations were very interesting.
Person 1 - TerpZone:
For this gentleman, I asked him how his day was and he replied that his day was going well, but that he was really tired. I had asked him if he had a heavy workload and if that was why he was tired, and he said that he did have a lot of homework being a Government major. So I told him to try spacing out his assignments so that he's not staying up late and he said that he'd try.
Person 2 - Giant:
This older lady who reminded me of my grandmother was struggling to put all her bags into her trunk from the shopping cart. So I offered my assistance since she didn't have anyone else to help her. She thanked me and asked me why I was so nice (lol). I told her that she reminded me of my grandma and that I wanted to help her. I told her that I was a student studying Public Health and she told me that I chose a very good major because there will always be a demand. And I told her that job security in addition to passion was why I chose this field.
