Although there is no specific date this year Australia day is celebrated on January 26. Australia day is a day when Australians celebrate their country. (similar to the 4th of july). On Australia day Australians remember the day the european settlers arrived. They celebrate with fairs and carnivals. Most towns and cities participate as well. The second holiday is ANZAC day this day marks Australia’s first battle in world war 1. Service member and vets meet together at dawn at the public memorial. At the memorial there is a moment of silence to honor those who lost their lives. After this a huge parade is held and people from all over the country come together to celebrate ANZAC day.

A second key event in Australia’s history was the aboriginal people.The aboriginal people faced many struggles. They had roamed Australia many years before the british did and the british took their land. The british also caused many aborigines to die because of foreign disease, land loss and brutal arguments between aboriginal and the british. In 1960 forms addressed the aborigines issues and the struggle they faced. In 1962 aboriginal people were granted national voting rights. In 1970 the government removed aboriginal children from their parents and families. In 1992 however aboriginal people were allowed to press land claims. In Australia, many people are Christian which is about 61% percent of the population. Within Christianity, there is protestant which is about 30% of the Christian people, Roman Catholic which is about 25%, and then other Christian religions are about 6%. The other 39% of Australia’s population is evangelical and fundamentalist protestant faiths this includes Buddhism, Islam, and Hinduism. These three religions are all growing in population. Although those religions are celebrated by average Australian citizen the Aborigines have their own religious beliefs. The aboriginal religion is based on legends of Dreamtime. In order to practice their religion they must do things for society, go to ceremonies, and they have their own social responsibilities. This helps keep connections with the people and the land strong.

THe aboriginal people actually have their own radio station so they can tune into the latest songs and news  as well. Chiko rolls are made of cabbage, carrots, and beef. Then they are fried, rolled and served. The Chinese Australians claim chiko rolls as their own. Meat pies are a cultural icon. Meat pies were not created in Australia however they were brought over during the colonial days and stayed there ever since. Back in the day meat pies were sold on street vendors carts. Today however, they are sold in stadiums, service stations and they are also found in gourmet bakeries. Meat pies are officially apart of Australia’s culture. They were given the name of aussie pie and since 1990 they have held the great aussie pie competition. Lastly vegemite. Vegemite is a spread made from brewer's yeast and has a high source of vitamin B. Pavlova is i'd made with a meringue base, whipped cream, and fresh fruit on top normally strawberries. Legend has it that Pavlova was inspired by Anna Pavlova on her 1926 and 1929 tours of Australia. Next lamingtons are made of sponge cake which is then dipped in chocolate and then it is sprinkled with coconut shavings. It had been rumored that Lord Lamington was served this treat by his personal chef.  Later Lord Lamington climbed it would be named after him. Lastly anzac  is made out of oats, flour, butter, golden syrup, and bicarbonate of soda. Anzac was made by women during world war 2 and was originally called Soldiers biscuits for ANZAC tile.
