The Puritans believed that everything in their life that happened was predetermined, that it was the will of god. Because of this, the Puritans glorified god far more than any other religion, this showed up clearly in their writing. Of a Plymouth Plantation glorified god more than anything else. In a the story, every other point was to relate back to god. While the story said what it said, the purpose of it was glorify and connect god to the world.

Besides describing and honoring god, a few patterns showed up. The Puritans, being as plain as they were, made everything black and white, very uncomplicated. They faced problems sensibly and realistically and based on practical considerations. This Pragmatism lead them to include insufficient details to anything they faced because to them, it was exactly the way it appeared.

The passage was full of hate and declension just reading it made me uncomfortable. It said that god was holding you over hell, always ready too drop you in, yet there was no blame or hate for god. It was implying that it was more your fault just for being alive. They turned something seen as true evil and completely corrupt, on man. The implication of the text was that because of original sin, we are all damned for hell and it's not gods fault.

The comparison between a man and a despicable bug was made in this text. It said that the way god holds us over the depths of hell is the same as the way we hold a spider over a fire. The difference between the two is that the puritans believed that it was possible to please god so much, that he'd spare you eternal destination. A spider, unlike all men, has no way of pleasing you into not dropping him into the fire, he is absolutely doomed. For this, that bug can hate you. Its wrath for you is a thousand times stronger than your hate for it, yet you are the one walking away. To Puritans, the ability to please god is the only separation between us and spiders.

This story had some fascinating events, yet unsuitable descriptions of them. Puritans added little to no details about amazing events because they thought that it was predetermined, already bound to happen. When on their ship and a man almost went overboard but was rescued miraculously, the author wrote very little. In their eyes, it was just as miraculous as cooking an egg because it was already going to happen, gods will
